I much prefer the quiet neighborhood vibe rather than the hustle and bustle of the city itself...
Before heading out to breakfast, we made sure to stop by a local market to pick up some fruit and coffee beans (yes, Andytown as well as Ritual Coffee).

We noticed the St. Jorge cheese from the Matos Cheese Factory here and what do you know, it's twice as much in the market at $19.99 a pound. Yikes. So glad we went there in person because that cheese was pretty good.

Last time we were here (last summer), Bert and TC noticed a coffee shop across from the donut shop. It wasn't on my agenda because we ended up going to TWO other coffee places that day (Hollow Coffee and Snowbird), heh heh.

(cool arched doorway on Noriega St.)

This time we would be back because when I checked what they offered, TC wanted to try their artisanal toast, a food trend, which by the way, originated here in SF two years ago and has finally made it's way down to podunk San Diego, ha ha. Sarcasm alert. But really, check any breakfast or brunch menu of any hipster place in San Diego and they are serving some version of toast (or basically an open faced sandwich).

Drinks and toast. That's what we were here for.

TC really liked the decor in here. I liked that the toasts were made to order and that there were savory selections. I'm not one for eating sweet food for breakfast.

Bert's Guatemala pourover (before the cream and sugar):

My Nutella latte with almond milk:

Now the trio is complete withTC's chai latte. She really enjoyed Home's version. It wasn't too "spicy" and was pretty mellow with all of the milk.

I normally don't drink lattes but got one this particular day. As predicted, it was too "milky" even though it wasn't real milk. Bert had to finish it for me. I tried to be different but it didn't work.

Now for the toasts:

Bert's Eggs in a basket.

My Chicken meatball:

TC's Tomato truffle oil with an added egg:

All of the toasts were quite delicious. Mine especially, was hearty with all of those chopped chicken meatballs. TC's tomato toast had some avocado underneath as well. I shared some of my meatballs with Bert since his toast was plain by comparison.

Across the street was the donut shop...our next stop!

Alright, we can now cross off "toast in San Francisco" off our list. The morning was still young though. Thank goodness parking out here isn't metered or timed. We still needed to cross the street for a few treats to go...
