Why such Draconian measures you may wonder? It was all part of my plan...
to secure a prime parking spot, after reading reviews that warned of having to park a mile or more away (which wouldn't fly with me) and walking up a hill or whatever. Oh no...plus the added benefit of arriving early was the unexpected benefit of getting in for FREE! Not like the $10 suckers had to fork over because they came after 9 am.
We got there right when they opened, 8 am. It was so peaceful and quiet and we were able to enjoy the park without the screaming hordes of unruly children and having to walk past slow walkers.
FREE! But not after 8:30 or 9:00 am!
The map at the entrance depicted various trails. We choose one that was pretty easy but also took us up the hills so we weren't just at ground level. I'll let the photos do the talking...
So many beautiful coast redwoods here. Very lush and primordial.
We spent about an hour here, enjoying our walk and the majestic views. Since we left Petaluma without having breakfast, I thought we could pick up something small at the gift shop/snack area. Crappily, their sandwich options were not yet ready. It was too early. Other people were disappointed as well. We ended up getting an onion cheddar scone while TC found a souvenir penny machine to plunk her .51 into. Her collection is growing with each vacation.
This was our only snack before our eventual lunch in SF.
