Wow, it's the 2 Year Blogaversary of Pink Candles at Ridgemont High! Two years of online blathering on various topics like food, recipes, things that I like and what bugs me and whatever else...
I'm finally on Spring Break but it's already halfway over. Had a fun time at the zoo with Lotous, her beautiful baby S, my daughter and Elphie. No swinging zebra penises today! Ha ha. We're going to do the Wild Animal Park on Friday.

Fork & Spoon
I blogged recently about my collection of Filipino wooden fork and spoon decorations. This is my favorite pair of all. This lovely pair is about 3 feet long, maybe a tiny bit more. I got it for $8 at a thrift store 8 years ago. It is hanging in our kitchen, next to my poster of the Philippine Basketry Exhibit from UCLA's Fowler Museum (1998), and above our rice dispenser, one of our favorite wedding gifts. This is near our patio door by the way. Superman painted this for me several years ago. I just love the colors...Red, yellow, orange and gold...
This is the fork. In fact, you could see a bit of it behind me in my profile photos. I love how Superman incorporated the limbs of the figure (demon) into the tines of the fork...
The counterpart spoon...For those of you that know Supe's drawing style, this is CLASSIC Superman. With more vibrant colors.
This pair is a great conversation piece, especially among the non Filipinos. "What the hell is that!" they're proably thinking. Kidding. Why are they so big anyways? As a kid, I used to be kind of embarassed about these types of decorations, now I see it as a welcoming sight in our house. I've embraced our culture's love of these gargantuan decorations and see it as a sign of hospitality. The kitchen is the center of all activity and it's only appropriate that I hung this here.
