I also found out about this while doing a "coffee" search online and saw that it was really just a "pop up" on the second floor of a Korean Methodist church...
They used to be located elsewhere, but during the time of our visit, were still located in the church and were (at the time) building their new location (new address lined at the end of this post).
You have to park in the back of the church. By the way, it was getting hellishly hot by this time (85+) and it was only 9:30 am.

See the blue sign in the window?

This was House Roots Coffee...second floor. We entered through a side door with the big tree stump. The grill was for later; they were planning to grill ribs that day.

This was the shop that summer...a long counter, tons of coffee equipment and friendly young baristas (all Korean American). Beans are from Heart Coffee Roasters from Portland, OR.

Growlers are available here.
My iced sweet latte with almond milk. Both Bert and I really enjoyed sipping on this during our drive down.

Cortado (with almond milk) - Shared by both Bert and myself.

Bert's macchiato proper, served with sparkling water.

TC's hibiscus lime soda, made in-house.

She added the cute "stickers"; this is an app on her phone. Her drink was quite refreshing and had some tartness from the citrus.
Sign near the bathroom, which also had a lot of religious posters. This was a church after all.

We enjoyed all of our drinks, even the hot ones. Our espresso based drinks were really smooth and did not need additional sugar. No burnt taste like at some (cough) places. But really, the ambiance was chill here and the drinks were great.
I'm really glad we stopped by here and although they are no longer at this location, it was cool to visit a "hidden" coffee shop.
