Ryan Brothers Coffee, Lemon Grove + the Giant Lemon and the Lips rock

I didn't realize that Ryan Bros Coffee had set up shop here in this historic Streamline Moderne corner shop in downtown Lemon Grove...

Thankfully replacing Charbucks (which moved down the street as a drive-thru)...

Portland Day 2 - Return to the Village Merchants + Joan of Arc statue

Prior to our trip, I had asked TC to make a wish list of sorts...

ranging from places to eat, visit and shop. She chose to focus on thrift stores...

"Year of the Rooster" mural by Glow in Azalea Park alley

I walked past the park towards this alley...

located near the southeaster corner of the park...

The mural is pretty extensive - with a long wall that wraps around a house...

The mural was a collaboration between three artists, which include my favorite, Gloria Muriel (aka Glow.

It is entitled the Year of the Rooster and was inspired by the homeowner's chickens.

This is the left most portion of the mural. The following photos show the progress from left to right:

I am always in awe of her beautiful murals...

My next stop this particular morning was also in the area...a revisit to a "coffee shack", if you will, but FIRST, another mural!

Spring Break Trip 2017 - Day 7 Highlights

This was the building we saw peeking behind our hotel's courtyard...

Today happened to be as, what the teens would call it, "Windy af" (yes, click on those letters to be enlightened)...

Bigfoot sighting in Normal Heights

It would be remiss of me NOT to post this awesome find..

After leaving Blackmarket Bakery, KD needed to drop something off at a local Fed Ex and in doing so, we traversed down Felton Street to get back to the freeway...

World's Tallest? The McKinleyville Totem Pole

You saw a glimpse of this in my previous post...

It's not often that you see a super tall totem pole in the parking lot of a Safeway, eh...

But that is precisely why we were here...

Wildberries Marketplace + taxidermy @ the McKinleyville Barbershop

We needed to buy a few items for our lunch for today. As always, we had a lot of driving ("we" as in Bert).

(yes, fireworks are legal here!)

TC was happy because she got to ride in the front seat.  Near Northtown Coffee was this health food/grocery store, Wildberries Marketplace...

Scenes from Kobey's Swap Meet

Astroboi is the king of sideroads...

We were able to get to Point Loma from the College Area without using the freeway...

The grey skies and drizzle this morning gave way to blue skies and warmer temps as we parked in the former Sports Aroma Arena, now renamed Valley View Casino Center (ugh)...

Spring Break Road Trip 2016 - Day 2 Highlights

Even though I was so tired, I still woke up super early!  We had things to do, places to visit. Chop! Chop!

(the scene at our super cute French inspired hotel's cafe counter)

After enjoying a few mini crepes at the hotel, we were ready to get going...

Summer Road Trip 2014 Day 5 - Ostrich Land USA, Solvang

The fifth day of our Central Coast summer trip took us south to Solvang...

No, we weren't here to see the town. Been there and done that. Plus old people galore.

No, we were here to stop at a roadside attraction that was definitely on the quirky (dare I say tourist-trappy) side...

A few doors away from Woodcat Coffee Bar

Bubblegum Alley

A gas refill somewhere in San Luis Obispo  yielded these two packs of gum...

which would be instrumental in our next stop on our road trip...

The new Meshuggah Shack, East Village

After our dismal breakfast (well, mine at least) from Bottega Americano, we walked up Park so TC could see the murals on the hArt Lounge building...

On our way there, we saw this bright lime green shipping container serving coffee...

It was the new location of the Meshuggah Shack (the original location is on Goldfinch in Mission Hills)...

Return to Mattawa (another drive by)

Ya down with OPP?

"Yeah, you know me!"  - In this case, the OPP stands for the Ontario Provincial Police!

C and I had a larf whenever we passed by those yellow signs...

FreakybutClosed...

Just a few blocks down the same street was this place...

but unfortunately, it was not open which meant we would have to come back another time.

Nevertheless...

Artisanal lightbulbs?

While walking on N. Mississippi, we came across this interesting storefront...

Hmmmm...I wonder if this is where "Portlandia got their idea for their "artisanal lightbulbs" sketch...
