It was funny while driving to this bakery. Bert asked, "Haven't we been here before?" and I replied, "No, this is the first time!"...

House of Silvanas is in a tiny strip mall that is on a hill with a wierd road that leads to it. We missed it the first time then had to double back to get in. As we approached, Bert said, "Yeah, we HAVE been here before!"....

I knew she liked Burmese food and since both of us hadn't been here before, Little Yangon was our dinner destination that evening...

San Francisco Day 1 - Nation's Giant Hamburgers, Daly City

This past weekend, we enjoyed a quick getaway to San Francisco. We took a early ass flight out of SD (6 am). After getting the rental car, we headed over to grab a quick bite to eat before doing our "educational" sightseeing.

Here we were in the a suburb south of San Francisco with HELLA FILIPINOS GALORE! That place could only be Daly City!

Filipino American comedian Rex Navarette once joked that the reason why it's always foggy in Daly City is because of all the steam coming out from all the rice cookers.

Pause.

C'mon, I thought that joke was pretty damn funny when we saw him in concert!

According to the 2008 census, out of roughly 100,000 residents more than half are Asian, the majority being Filipinos. As of 2006 census figures, 35.4% of Daly City residents are of Filipino descent which is the highest concentration of Filipino/Filipino Americans of any mid-sized city in North America. Being the anal retentive plannner that I am, I'd already compiled a list of things we had to see, eat and visit. Last year, one of my co-workers also recommended that we try this place, Nation's Giant Hamburgers, which is a Cerritos based chain but operates mainly in the Bay Area. This location is the only one on the west side of the Bay.

It was drizzling when we arrived...Nation's was in a tiny portion of this huge mall, next to Chipotle.

Here's that mall, the Westlake Center:

We were so hungry! My dad had dropped us off at the airport before 5 am! It was already 8 pm'ish.

This was a pretty busy place. Even though the rest of the mall wasn't open, it was pretty steady in here. I noticed most of the workers were Filipino, but the clientele was quite diverse. Check out their menu here!

Ooh, our friend Superman would like this! Bacon makes everything taste better!

Because Nation's is billed as having "giant hamburgers" (3/4 lb, fk!), I wasn't sure if TC and I could finish one for each of us, so we shared just one cheeseburger. We also ordered a chocolate shake to share...Mmmmm.

Here's the cheeseburger unwrapped. The lettuce was kinda ugly looking just poking out like that. We ended up cutting this in half. It was pretty substantial, but if I was super hungry, I could probably finish one of these on my own.

The one thing I didn't like about this burger was the overabundance of mayo. Too much!!!
