City Heights Coffee House revisit + breakfast at Saigon on Lunar New Year

After having had pretty nasty weather for the past few weeks...the sun decided to come out this weekend.

Last time we tried coming here, they were closed for the Thanksgiving weekend...

This time, the place was open...

Bigfoot sighting in Normal Heights

It would be remiss of me NOT to post this awesome find..

After leaving Blackmarket Bakery, KD needed to drop something off at a local Fed Ex and in doing so, we traversed down Felton Street to get back to the freeway...

Brunch at 94th Aero Squadron

This past Friday, San Diego was hit with a major storm in which high winds prevailed and a number of trees all across San Diego toppled...

(as seen on Palm Ave near the 805 South offramp)
I actually saw a tree fall while driving home from work on Friday. Another had fallen near a local middle school and was blocking the road. Talk about crazy weather!

Today, my sister and I took out the kids and my parents for Sunday brunch..

We haven't been here since TC was a toddler...

Stops #2, 3, & 4 - Brunch @ Et Voila French Bistro, Coffee @ Hawthorn and dessert @ Black Market Bakery

Another downpour occurred while en route to Normal Heights. We made it safely, thanks to TORC's calm driving skills.

I got splashed while taking this full on shot of the Jimi Hendrix mural, near the corner of 30th and Ohio Street...

KD's Birthday Food Crawl 2017 - Stop #1: Modern Times Cafe & a massive downpour

With two major rainstorms and supposedly a brief respite today...

(805 north towards the 8 exit)

Three fourths of the Educator GF's were present to celebrate KD's birthday this partially sunny moring...

Cafe Stems with Kirbie + Cake de Partie revisit

During my break, it was nice relaxing with family as well as going out with my friends on different occasions.

(where I parked across the street on Daggett)

On this particular sunny January day (a nice break from all that rain), I made my way to the Convoy corridor for a lunch meetup with my good friend Kirbie.

I got there early so I could do street parking...

Coming soon...Ranch 99 in Chula Vista

As seen back in November 2016...

(former Vons on Telegraph Canyon Road near the 805)

This used to Vons, then it folded and became Haggens and we all know what a disaster Haggens was...

Hogetsu revisits 2016

I know this is not a sign for Hogetsu...

But as of April last year, Japanese restaurant Utage was gone and later, a banner for a upcoming birria place was up...

Last meal at K-Pasta

A few days ago, Cathy of mmm-yoso sent me a screenshot from K-Pasta's facebook.

They were going to close...but would reopen soon under a different concept.

Knowing this, we decided to come here for lunch  one last time...

Gloria Muriel (Glow) & Beth Emmerich mural at El General Market + canyon markers, Azalea Park

Yesterday Bert and I had a bit of an adventure...

(Tet festival sign seen on 805 off ramp to Home Ave)

we had coffee at two different places, Butler's and Tech Outfitters ...

and after dropping off some donations at the Goodwill on Home Ave...

Tech Outfitters

I mentioned previously that we passed by the coffee place before going to Liberty Station...

I wanted to see where it was, assess the parking situation (street, but they do have their own lot) and all...

A quick walk at Liberty Station + a revisit to Con Pane

With our frackin' paper cupped coffees from Butler's in hand,

(as seen from the 94, heading west)

we made our way across to the 94 to get to the 805....

Coffee revisits: Cafe Virtuoso, Hawthorn, Moniker and Butler's

Just a consolidationm post of recent revisits to various coffee places...

Cafe Virtuoso in Barrio Logan is one of our favorites.

You may want to try this place in the near future especially since it is literally a few steps away from the new (and not yet built or opened) Roscoe's Chicken and Waffle...

Blackmarket Bakery

The signage at the corner of 30th and Adams had been there since late 2015...

In early fall, Bert and I went to check out Blackmarket Bakery...

They were supposed to be in "soft opening" stage (early October) but in fact, were not open that early in the morning despite posted hours on their site. They would be opening later in the week, they said...

All in the same strip mall revisits - S3 Coffee, The Purple Mint & Donut Panic

I had the pleasure of meeting with my friend The Prof earlier today...

I chose this stripmall quite strategically....

The Incredible Cheesecake Company revisits

We didn't have to walk too far to get here...

It was good since we parked right around the corner.

Thank goodness I found my coupon so we could make use of it today...

Ch-ch-changes...in North Park + Poke One n Half + Dark Horse & the Prince mural once again!

My sister called me up earlier today wanting to have lunch. TC was off early from practice so off to North Park we went. Apparently, there is a newish poke place there now..

My nephew drove and parked near this wall (the "North Park" mural on the side of a furniture store).

The blank slate straight ahead used to have street art on it...

Modern Times Fermentorium Cafe

In the back of my mind, I remembered that Modern Times Brewery had a cafe...

the full name is rather pretentious (see post title). When I hear words with the suffix "orium", I think of "sanitorium" or "vomitorium", ha ha. But luckily this wasn't one of those.

(this is right across from Modern Times)

Located in an area with warehouses, a nearby strip club (the notorious Les Girls) and Denny's is Modern Times Cafe...

The Nest

My original plan for the day after New Year's Day was to watch the Rose Parade on TV...

Since NYD fell on a Sunday, the Parade itself was held the following Monday, which was yesterday.

Bert and I had another free morning. TC was out doing sports practice and Bert had the DVR set to record two different channels for the Rose Parade...
