It had been about sixe years since our last visit...
and since TC is now a junior in high school, we wanted her to see San Francisco State University "in action", when class was in session, so she could personally experience the atmosphere.

I would hope she would want to take classes from this department, Ethnic Studies & Psychology. If you read my previous post (linked at the end), I link the history of the Third World Strikes and the Ethnic Studies movement which originated here at San Francisco State.

As we walked by this sandwich board, I overheard a man telling his female friend how much he loves spam musubis. The Spam I'd eat but not the cheese.

Triptich inside the Cesar Chavez Center, which also houses the bookstore. We took a quick look around so we could get shirts; I was also keen on finding some new books related to Filipino American history and/or literature here on the lower floor.

Below the Filipino Community Mural on the north side of the bookstore.

I've linked the history of the mural in my other previous post (linked at the end).
move

This mural about Arabic culture is around the corner, along with the murals of Malcolm X and Cesar Chavez.

Bert and TC took these shots at the top of the Cesar Chavez Center. There is a pretty steep slope with stadium seating at the top.

While TC and Bert were enjoying the views from on high, I was down here leafing through my new books while students walked to and from class.

My new literary acquisitions:

"Angel de la Luna - The 5th Glorious Mystery" by M. Evelina Galang (click here to see reviews on her website ; I had the pleasure of interviewing Evelina 20 years ago for a community newsletter; she had just come out with her first novel "Her Wild American Self"). I started the first chapter but have put it aside so I could make more time to read it during the weekends. The other book is in comic book form. I was able to read 3/4 of the book while waiting for Bert and TC. I was happy to have found a new (to me) book by one of my favorite Filipina American authors and also glad to have discovered a new author.
TC was especially interested in checking out a track invitational that was happening this day. We saw some universities represented such as Boston University, South Dakota, Boise State and California schools such as Pepperdine and UCLA. We watched several events, the mens and the womens relay as well as the 400, 800 and the 1600. TC was so impressed to see how fast and focused the college students were on the track. Such a big difference from the high school level.

There was a lot of excitement in the air and it was cool seeing all of the different teams in their uniforms in the stands, along with their families cheering them on.

Who knows? Maybe TC will apply here and get accepted! I hope we would be able to afford it, otherwise, it's SDSU or community college first!
Our next stop on our list was over down in Burlingame, to a place that was just brimming over with pop culture goodness.
