Summer Road Trip 2016 Day 6 - Breadologie Bakery, Granada Hills

For our vacations, we USED to just want to make a straight shot down from wherever we were to San Diego.

But nowadays, I see it as an opportunity to explore. A road trip is an excuse to try new places...

and this last day of our summer trip was no exception...

I chanced upon Breadologie Bakery when researching what was "in the area". Our original and first stop (which ended up being our second; that post is forthcoming) was down the same street and when I saw that this bakery was quite new (at the time), well, we had to go. Plus it was open earlier than our breakfast stop.

Breadologie Bakery is in Granada Hills, one of the many suburbs in the Valley (San Fernando Valley). It was nice coming in so early. It smelled so good in here and most of their pastry selections were available.

Their coffee is from Verve (from Santa Cruz). They also offer tea and food but we were here for pastries.

I wanted it all.  Shortly after I took the photo above, the boards were replenished with freshly made pastries.

Loved the wooden croissant decor. I bought one package of the cheesy bread rolls for my parents. They were so soft.

So many great pastries within...

Chocolate chip bread roll, a variety of croissantS a corn and cheese ensaymada, plus coffee cream filled bun.

Now on to the croissants. We loved that they had more than just the typical plain, or almond or chocolate croissants. The flavors were incorporated not just in the glaze but also the fillings.

First up, blood orange.

Followed by Honey Coffee - we loved the homemade honey comb. It was still crisp hours later.

Look at those rolled layers.

This was TC's favorite, the Strawberry Peach:

Her second favorite was this, the Cookies and Cream:

The corn and cheese ensaymada - This is a roll typically seen at Filipino bakeries. The addition of the corn was a nice "twist".

I won't bore you with cross sections of each croissant but just know this, each and EVERY one of them was delicious. As mentioned earlier, the fillings were true to the name of each croissant. Each bite was decadent but worth it. My only regret is that we didn't buy two of each.

Since we were in the "Valley", here's something from the 80's vaults, a song that made fun of the slang used by "Valley Girls" (1982).

Frank Zappa, an eclectic musician/composer (rock, jazz, avante garde), who gained prominence in the late 60's with his band, The Mothers of Invention. He briefly lived in El Cajon in his later teen years and there is even a banner of him hanging somewhere in Little Italy (since he did have some Italian ancestry). I have a photo of it in of my older posts. His children had unusual names, including Dweezil (an accomplished guitar player like his father), Ahmet, Diva and Moon Unit (now known as "Moon").  She made fun of "Valspeak" talk with this song which came out in 1982. This video clip is from the TV show, "Solid Gold" and she is introduced by Marilyn McCoo (former lead singer of The Fifth Dimension).

"We're talking, "Lord God King Bufu"

"Like, totally!"

"Bag yer face, I'm sure!"

"Oh my God, your toenails are like, so grody!"

Haha, everything is totally quotable from this song! This was pretty much Frank Zappa's one and only top 40 hit.

In keeping with my M.O., our next stops were also in this area since we were probably not going here again any time soon.  Breakfast & coffee coming up...
