We missed the turn and but no worries, we were able to find our way...
to the Muir Beach Overlook which boasts amazing views of coastal cliffs and the Pacific Ocean. Because we came early in the morning, parking was easily found. We noticed a group of young 20-somethings that we saw earlier at Muir Woods. They later took our photos (and vice versa) at the lookout point itself.

Marine layer in the distance.

The overlook is accessed by walking a trail at the top of the cliff.

Information about the park. I found the last placard quite interesting as there were several base end stations here, vestiges of WWII and the Cold War.

Here is one of the base end stations at the park. From these hiding structures, soldiers would spot ships and figure out how fast they were approaching. After radar became more widely used, these stations became obsolete.

View to the south:

It was great being able to enjoy the views without crowds. The only other visitors was that group we saw earlier at the Muir Woods.

View near the end of the steps, looking up.

The lookout point:

During whale migration seasons, visitors could also spot whales out here. Sadly, there were none during the time of our visit.
I highly suggest a visit if you are ever in the area. The views are spectacular, especially if you go on a clear day, which we were lucky it was.
Who else has been here?
It was Josh's post from CATML that intrigued us and prompted us to add this spot to our itinerary (his post has fantastic photos)
