As we left SF amidst rush hour traffic, we took note of the two new buildings going up downtown...

We noticed them on our way in a few days ago....

Holy Trinity Church, the Trinidad Memorial Lighthouse & War Memorial + Old Home Beach

This church in Trinidad, California looked straight out of a story book...

with its gothic windows and cross topped spire...

Further up the coast was our next stop on our summer road trip...

It would be another lighthouse...

But what made this particular lighthouse stand out above the rest was that...

On the way home from an outing with TC, we took the long way home to get away from traffic.

From the 5, I took the Main Street exit so I could get on National City Blvd where we passed by the iconic Palm Reader sign (in the 70's and 80's the sign had an eyeball on it instead of a planet)...

This rather inocuous bridge from above is one you might have driven under many times while on the 94...

Atop the bridge on the western pedestrian walkway is a piece of interactive public art...

Golden Gate Park - Bison and Windmills

After our snack and drinks at Andytown, we headed out to get some fresh air and exercise.

Here was the lovely traffic we encountered as we headed north on the Great Highway...

Our next stop was beautiful Golden Gate Park...

Farewell to the Wullenwebber Antenna Array (aka "that circle thing") on the Strand...

Known to many South Bay locals as "the elephant cage" (or in my case, the rather unpoetic "that circle thing"), the metal circular structure seen at the southern end of Silver Strand state beach is set to be torn down...

As a child, I was always fascinated by this structure which we would invariably pass during trips to the beach or to Coronado....

SF Road Trip Day 3 Highlights

I wanted us to hit up that popular bakery in the Outer Sunset right when it opened.

Luckily, there wasn't a big crowd yet. We knew the bride's cupcakes were from here and this place was also highly recommended by my cousin so of course, we HAD to, since we were "in the area"....

Nitt Witt Ridge

Cambria is one of those towns that we normally drive past and never stop. It being an Artist'scolony doesn't seem too exciting to me.

Not that I am uncultured or anything, but it didn't have anything to entice us enough to stop...until I read about this crazy house in my "Weird California" book...

Return to Blackwell's Corner

If you head west on the 46, you will end up at the coast, but we planned to make another stop before our next leg...

I believe I was driving during this bit since Bert was a bit tired from earlier...

It's nice when the roads aren't crowded but man, it's a bit boring out here with long stretches of farmland...

Cliff House, the Camera Obscura and Seal Rocks

The rain was really pouring now as we made our way out of the Inner Sunset all the way to the coast's edge...

This stretch of road is called the Great Highway and it straddles Ocean Beach and a few historic spots in San Francisco...

Fort Point

Afrer our little snack at La Boulange, we took the scenic route to our next destination...

Passing by LIttle Tokyo and the outer neighborhoods of SF...

I love how the buildings here have such distinct architectural details, especially bay windows...

Once we saw the bridge in the distance, we knew we were close by...

Walking along the Embarcadero and heading towards Pier 39

The last time we were at Pier 39 was nearly 10 years ago...

TC was but a wee tyke back then...and we've avoided that tourist trap ever since. However, it WAS on our daughter's list of "to visit" places so off we went by foot to enjoy the bayfront and trek over to tourist hell...
