where we make the trek to the horse park in Del Mar to score on free parking...

in order to attend the San Diego County Fair super early...

This past Friday we made our annual trek to the Del Mar San Diego Fair...

The theme was "A Fair to Remember"...and like the several years past, we parked in the Horse Park and took the free shuttle...

We were there early enough...

Birthday Lunch at Del Mar Rendezvous 3x, return to the Torrey Pines Glider Port and cupcakes from Sprinkles

I was liking this concept...being "off" on my birthday. It was like, as my friend TORC said, "playing hookie".

Even though I felt a tiny twinge of guilt, I thought about it and thought, "You know, FK it! Work will be there tomorrow. I need to to do this EVERY year, %$#@"!

Dessert revisited at Sea & Smoke

Return to Cafe Cantata

Our original lunch destination wasn't open until 4:30 pm today (d'oh for Sundays!). $%#@! I couldn't believe I didn't double check before we left the house...

Thus Plan B was put into action, which was to meander up Del Mar and head over to another lunch spot...

A few days ago, I met up with Kirbie of Kirbie's Cravings in Del Mar...

She suggested the newly opened Cafe Cantata (which replaced the Pannikin) in the Flower Hill Mall. Both of us got caught up in heavy traffic to the San Diego Fair...

Bert and I perused the different booths before deciding on our first "snack" of the day...

Yesterday Bert, TC and I along with one of her friends had a blast at the SD Fair (which will always be the Del Mar Fair in my mind)...

If you want free parking, I suggest parking at the Del Mar Horsepark where you can ride a shuttle to the fair, or even a double decker bus if you're lucky...

I was excited because the theme was 'The Fab Fair' and celebrated the 50th Anniversary of the Beatles first coming to America as well as 60's culture in general...

This post will be just the sights with a separate one for the food...

Dessert @ Sea & Smoke, new macaron flavors and a free bundlet...

With a fab 80's soundtrack playing in Astroboi's vehicle, we made the short trip from lour lunch at Del Mar Rendezvous to the Flower Hill shopping center...

One thing I can always count on with Astroboi is his good taste in music...

Return to Del Mar Rendezvous

A card like this can only be from one person...

and that would be my dear friend Astroboi with whom I spent several fab hours today in the coastal city of Del Mar...

For the record, the inside of the card reads, "The more you have, the harder it is to breathe"!

I joked to him that the word rendezvous reminded me of Sheila E...

a place where I normally don't shop for anything, except for one thing...

Dallman Chocolates, Del Mar

While walking back to our car after viewing "The Art of John Lennon" exhibit, I saw this chocolate shop on the top floor...it was a few doors down from a dog bakery, of all things. Who the fk buys their dog cookies and cupcakes? WTF man!

Of course, I was curious but also a little scared...

We bypassed the traffic on the 5 on a side street...seeing the fair from afar before heading into free parking...

Not to be a hater but lots of overpriced shops here I tell you, but what do you expect, it's on the ritzier side of town. We were able to walk off some of our calories before heading back to pick out a dessert or two...
