Return to Up2You Cafe

Our lunch at Nijiya and quick pit stop at Cafe Hue still left me craving dessert. Aaaaaand, since we were in the area...

Why not go back to Up2You?

My mind was doing somersaults with glee because we had five people in our group that day...

and of course that meant more choices to put on the blog! It was nice having Bert with us along with KDD and D. Normally, it's just me and TC. I just love their hanging menus!

This time we sat in the front corner. It wasn't as crowded as our first visit, which was a good thing.

Cute bathroom sign:

The tweens busied themselves by playing Jenga (one of the many various games for customers to play with).

Bert's Caramel Coffee...

One of the slushies of the tweens. One ordered mango, the other pineapple. Both looked the same to me, hence only one shot.

Our desserts...

Man, these two girls are bottomless pits.  This was their honey brick toast with diced mango and strawberry ice cream. In my excitement and haste, I forgot to add condensed milk as one of the toppings. I also noticed (after comparing the photos from that day to our first visit) that they did not putt a dollop of whipped cream on top of the ice cream. Instead, they were arranged on all four side of this impressive looking dessert.

For us three adults, we shared this brick toast. I learned from my surreptitious photo of someone else's dessert from our first visit, to get contrasting colors and flavors of fruit and ice cream, haha. In our case, green tea ice cream with sliced strawberries. Again, this lacked the condensed milk, but it was still delicious!

I'm sure this would also taste good with maple syrup! I still have a can from Canada waiting to be used.

This was D's affogato  with vanilla ice cream...

Not pictured was the affogatto I shared with Bert, which had coffee ice cream. Caffeine overload! I  really like the bitter flavors of the espresso with the cold ice cream.

Once again, our desserts and drinks before it was attacked consumed. Wait, you can see my affogato down there after all.

I think we all imploded from all that sugar. But really, it was a great second visit made even more memorable with extra people!  One day, I shall go through all of their menu choices.

[Update: One thing to note, beware of long wait times especially if you are ordering multiple items or if there are tons of people in there. It seems like they take forever. For our first visit, we got our affogato first. The other items came later (drinks and honey toast). For this visit, because we had two toast orders, four drinks, and two affogato, for whatever reason, they wanted to wait until every item was ready to pick up. That kind of sucks if you have ice cream. When we went to pick up what we correctly thought was our order, they said, "Oh it's not all done yet" but I said, "I want to get what's ready NOW" (but in a nice tone, but my normally bitchy one, just kidding, not really).]

Previous visit to Up2You Cafe:
May 2013

And just for fun, this is video I saw about how to make Honey Toast. This one is called "Shibuta Toatst" and it is different because the toast is waaaaay thicker and it is hollowed out, the innards cubed and toasted with butter and then filled back into the cavity and topped with all sorts of stuff:

Man, where can I get THAT?

I knew I saw this type of toast dessert somewhere before and finally found out why it was so "familiar" even though I've never eaten this version. You must check out Kirbie's post on how she made her version of the  Ultimate Brick Toast!  Note to self - buy the unsliced bread loaf at Nijiya or Mitsuwa soon!

Mm I love this place. Haha. I think the cutesy atmosphere has grown on me... Has the service speed improved? I remember the last couple of times I went, it took 10 mins for a milk tea!

I've been wanting to revisit and try some of the menu items that are on there that weren't there before. Also the brick toast looks much better compared to when it first opened. Must make a note to visit soon.

When I saw you get the maple toast at 85c, I though that was a great idea...then forgot about it and now remember again. I think I am going to have to break down and order a 'professionally made' brick toast. It looks like the menu is seasonal and easily changed with those "S" hooks...

hi jinxi- you brought up a good point. one that i forgot to put in my post (which I will update) - the service speed has NOT improved. it's very slow, especially if you have a large group or are ordering more than one thing (sarcasm). seriously, it's so damn slow.

hi kirbie - i want to try making that ultimate brick toast soon. it's just so much though and there's only 3 of us.

hi cindy - the maple brick toast was so good the next day. toasted and warm!

i like the graphics that they use for their menu. :)
