heralding the end of Spring and the beginning of summer...
The blossoms look so pretty on the trees, but according to Bert, the custodians at the local community college hate it because they are a pain in the @$$ to clean up! I still think the jacaranda trees are beautiful when in full bloom.
When I hear the word "Jacaranda", not only do I think of the tree, but I also associate it with a club in Liverpool that the Beatles used to practice in their early days. It was owned by Allan Williams, their first manager (pre-Brian Epstein). Murals by Stuart Sutcliffe (their first bass player who died tragically of a brain hemmorhage) can still be seen on its walls.

The jacarandah blooms also signal, to me at least, the end of the work year. After graduation, it's one month of vacation for me!
Here's what I wore at the ceremony. One of the few times of the year that I wear a damn dress. I'm more in my element in my ripped jeans and sneakers.

The dress is by Banana Republic. It's a rust colored sheath dress with a ruched tulip skirt. It drapes quite nicely. There are also decorative epaulets with a gold tone button. I've been trying to wear more color over the years, you know, to liven up my wardrobe.

The shoes were black leather platform sandals by Nine West's Americana collection. I bought these online last year; the name is, appropriately, "Heavy Metal".

As high as they look, these are actually quite comfortable. I felt like I could run a marathon in these. Just kidding, but really, they were not so bad! I was debating the night before and the morning of which shoes to wear because I would be standing on my feet for at least four hours and I didn't want my feet to ache.

The heel is about 4 1/2" tall with a 1 1/2" platform.

I normally wear these sandals with jeans so it felt kind of wierd to have the ankle strap exposed. In any case, the shoes worked well with the outfit and my feet were surprisingly ache free! Trust me, I took these things off after the ceremony and changed into flats!
The jewelry - Both the earrings and necklace were bought at Junc Life & Style in South Park. They are by a Colorado designer. I liked how Space Age they look and the use of mixed metals. Plus the spikes. I have to have some sort of spiky element.

These bangle bracelets were a STEAL at $1 each! I found them on the sale table at Rosa Mariposa in Little Italy. The bracelets were made either in India or Indonesia. I normally don't wear goldtone anything, but these worked well with the dress and the rest of my jewelry.

I was attracted by the circular stud designs, of course. For you SD Fair Goers, Rosa Marisposa usually has a table set up near all the craft vendors and they sell their jewelry at dirt cheap prices there. I may look for them when we go next week.
More info on dress here.
No more dress wearing occasions for awhile, thank goodness! I'm so happy it's summer time!
