We saw the San Diego skyline in several permutations on my birthday...
Shelter Island...

Sadly, Fathom Bistr0 & Tackle was not yet open 'til later that afternoon...

View of the Bay, downtown and Coronado naval base:

A local fisherman's set up.

At the north western tip of Shelter Island is the historic Yokohama Friendship Bell...

Across the street a pole with an osprey nest on top.

My birthday cake slices were obtained from this place, the European Cake Gallery:

It's so old school in here. A buff Latino dude helped us. We would enjoy the two cake slices later that evening (Swiss Black Forest and White Chocolate Raspberry).
We'll have to try this next time, the White Bavarian.

This one was good too...

The slices were on the thin side and didn't look so nice wrapped in plastic but they sure did taste good later this evening (photo taken later at home).

Now here is the San Diego Skyline from the Coronado Bridge. I'm glad I wasn't driving. I hate driving on bridges, this one especially.

Our last view of the San Diego Skyline was from Coronado itself, at the Ferry Landing.

While there, we saw a cargo ship (Dole! Pineapples and bananas?)...

More of our beautiful skyline. The San Diego Convention Center can be seen on the far right (with its sail like exterior). We like to call the point building the Flathead Screwdriver. Another building in the Skyline, the Emerald Shapery (which is not seen in this photo) was dubbed the Philips screwdriver.

In a patch of grass between the Ferry Landing shops and condos was a small but well kept Rose Garden which had beautiful roses of every color it seemed.

There is a narrow pathway in the garden...

We also saw parasailers...

and another cargo ship passing through!

Driving back through the strand, we saw these along the side of the road. I'm not sure if these cylinders were protecting plants or something.

The lone standing wall of the Wullenwebber Antenna Array:

On Palm Ave in IB near Jalisco Cafe. Look at the billboard above Jalisco's sign. I found it amusing.

After picking up TC, we used my free birthday Italian ice coupon at Rita's. I let TC pick the flavor since she would be the one to enjoy this.

The new watermelon flavor.

Whew! What a day this was!

OMG. love picture #3 with the flower framing. and pretty much all the other scenery pics as well! i haven't had rita's in a long time. i guess i'm not much of a flavored ice person.
Thanks Lynn. I like that photo as well. I don't preferRita's as much as TC does.
