Scenes from Kobey's Swap Meet

Astroboi is the king of sideroads...

We were able to get to Point Loma from the College Area without using the freeway...

The grey skies and drizzle this morning gave way to blue skies and warmer temps as we parked in the former Sports Aroma Arena, now renamed Valley View Casino Center (ugh)...

I haven't been to Kobey's Swap Meet in about two decades. Seriously. The last time I went was with Bert and we were newly married. I thought it would be fun to check it out before having our dessert...

We parked farther than we wanted to just so we wouldn't get sharked like other shoppers who parked close by.  The first concert I ever went to was here, INXS ("Kick" tour, 1988).  One of my favorite concerts was Van Halen's "0U812" (also in 1988 with Mr. Taquito and MJ) and "The Cult" (1991) with my good friend N. Mr. TJ actually saw Led Zeppelin here, September 1970 (they had just released two albums the year prior); he was in junior high. Yeah, he's old, ha ha.

Our admission was $2 each, not sure of what we would find or if we would even buy anything. There were vendors galore selling everything under the sun including this man who sold random toys (Disney, Polly Pocket, Fisher Price and so on)...

I don't know if I'd want a pillow of this in my house. This was the classic Poo Emoji; they had other variations where it had an angry face. I like the happier one better, ha ha.

Knifes of all sorts plu ninja sais (the same weapon favored by Elektra Natchios aka, Elektra Asassin)

The Jennifer Garner film version was just terrible though.

We had fun looking around...

I liked that there were produce sample. The fruit with the bumpy rind above (not sure what type of citrus it was) was so very sweet.

I used my elementary Spanish skill to inquire how much the Mexican candies were. This table had different varieties of peanut candy plus Japanese peanuts while the other table had chili and tamarind based candies.

We spotted a lone carved wooden Tinikling tapper on a vendors table scattered with other random objects. The dancer is supposed to have a male counterpart and a male and female dancer above (if hung on a wall). The tappers are supposed to hold two wooden bamboo poles to clap rhythmically as the dancers hop in an out. It looked strange to just have one tapper. I have a complete set in my office, a nod to the Filipino culture.

We spotted my mom's plates; the pattern is called "Gold Butterfly" by Corelle (1970). She still has them at home. I was thrilled to see saucers, bowls, a butter dish and another bowl with a removable lid (which strangely was plastic not glass like the other pieces). I didn't buy it but maybe I should have gotten it for my mom.

This Presidential plate stops at Jimmy Carter. Do the math.

Another relic from the 70's where mushroom designs reigned supreme.

Explosive looking ashtrays. My parents still have some big round peridot green ashtrays that they use as pot liners for their plants (we had them even though my parents didn't smoke).

"Yes my child..."

There you have it...random stuff galore.  I didn't take photos of every booth, obviously, but in a nutshell, there's a lot of junk out there. But again, one man's junk is another man's treasure.

It's only $2 or if you do the check in on the four lettered site, it's a dollar off! Who knows what you will find here!

Just a few steps away was the third and newest outpost of a hipster ice cream place with an irresistible offer for their grand opening...
