but ultimately chose a place we both hadn't gone to...
Which was a new place I'd seen during my visit to nearby Gonzalez Panaderia last year. My coupons for DK-Che or Teresita's can wait. Today, it was al about Raspados La Movida. Its in the strip mall with this sign, just down the hill from the Otay Mesa Library and the Wing.

They offer quite a few things here such as botanas (appetizers), clamato drinks, fruit snacks (one day, I'll have to try a Bionico), smoothies and raspados (a refreshing fruit based drink with shaved iced).

They had a lot of great flavor combinations for their raspados...

but we chose two drinks from their specialty menu...the Champina and the Champimango (medium size).

The guy's setup behind the counter (I spy Tajin, salt, Tabasco sauce, and chamoy).

Fresh fruit behind the conter and Mexican candies on the counter.

My Champimango - Chamoy with mango AND pineapple chunks, blended mango and pineapple, chaca chaca candy, a scoop of crushed ice topped with chamoy. This was so refreshing!

CAB's Champina which was the same as mine but with only pineapple.

Her drinks was just as great tasting as mine was. They also have another version with watermelon that I need to try next time.
The guy working here was really friendly and patient while we were deciding on what we wanted. It wasn't busy the day of our visit (a Sunday afternoon).
CAB was generous enough to gift us a variety of pastries from 85C.

Included is a Sun pastry, a raspberry strudel, a blueberry filled bun, a cream cheese dotted bun, a mango rolled bun, and a new (to me) jalapeno and cheese flaky bun (seen below).

Just look at this. It was gone in sixty seconds. Literally. I couldn't help myself.

Next time I go to 85C, I'm going to need to find this thing!
Raspados La Movida
2963 Beyer Blvd.
San Diego, CA 92154

FB page + the scant reviews from yelp
When searching for the link for this place online, I happened to notice that there were two other locations but they were in TJ, so perhaps this is a chain. I'll have to ask my friends if they heard of it. We are down south every weekend, so I anticipate future visits so that we can try their raspados (I'm especially interested in the peanut butter flavor as well as the walnut). We'll see!
