We left off at Cream Pan and THH in Tustin. Our next stop was over in Highland Park, a neighborhood close to Pasadena (our eventual destination)...
I first heard about Donut Friend from an older post by Darlene (her post linked at the end). At the time of her visit when they first opened, their original set up was all about customizing your donut. While they still have that option here, there are now many other flavors to choose from. Each donut is cleverly named with a musical reference.

I like that the artwork was featured in album cover frames (12x12).

Stiff Little Butterfingers (a play on Stiff Little Fingers, a punk band)...

Coconut of Conformity (Corrosion of Conformity) and at the bottom, S'Morrissey (S'Mores)!

Unlike me, TC knew what Polar Berry Club was a play on Polar Bear Cub (a post-hardcore band) but she did not know Fudgazi was a play on Fugazi.

Our original three (we ordered four but the girl forgot so Bert had to pay again separately)...
Husker Blue (Husker Du), S'Morrisey, Bacon'd 182 (Blink 182) and Strawberry So Far (Story So Far):

The Bacon'd 182 had maple frosting and a TON of crisp toasted coconut on top.

My Husker Du was a blueberry cake donut with blueberry frosting AND real blueberries on top.

Blueberry overload and I loved it! The donut also had a great crispness to it.
The S'Morrisey was just like a S'more but in donut form. This was quite rich and decadent.

TC was enamored with the heart shaped Strawberry So Far. It's named after one of her favorite bands, the Story So Far. She proclaimed it, "the best donut" she's ever had. While she is prone to making grand statements like this, she says that she really "means it". She let me have a small bite and yes, it was quite good. The frosting had real strawberry within (you could even see the seeds).

In all, each and every donut was unique and the flavors did not disappoint unlike at some places where the flavor is only relegated to the frosting. These were executed quite well with all of our choices. Bottom line, we'd go here again.

Who else went to Donut Friend?
It was Darlene's post from 2013 that piqued my interest but took us three years to come here:

Although they did serve coffee here, I had another place in mind for our caffeine fix...
