Then I realized it was the Rose Parade Tournament House (also known as the Wrigley mansion, as in Wrigley gum folks).
Below, another familiar sigh if you watch the Rose Parade...
Neither were our destinations but the particular house we wanted to see was nearby...
The house is known as the Gamble House, a National Historic Landmark. It is now a museum available for guided tours. The Gamble name is the very same from Proctor and Gamble. It is one of the city's finest examples of Craftsman style homes.
However, the house played a small part in the 1985 Robert Zemeckis movie, "Back to the Future" where it served as the home of Doc Emmett Brown!
This is the same POV shown in the movie when Marty McFly pays a visit to the good Doc at night...
It would have been cool to see the inside but it was closed until the next tour (and those tours ain't free).
We took a look at the back porch of the house. The detailed craftsmanship of the home was amazing, from the wooden timbers to the shingled tiles and the brick and stone walkways and walls...
Even the light fixture in the back was classic Arts & Crafts...
We didn't stay too long but it was cool seeing the house up close and personal.

This drone vid was kind of cool to see but also creeps me out knowing that people could fly their drones over neighborhoods (and potentially spy on people).

When we go to the Rose Bowl game, parking for free just off of Colorado Boulevard (opposed to paying $20 or more) and walking to the Bowl, we turn the corner at Gamble House. It's not open on that day and we have always meant to return. This is a great preview.
