The article was dated May 28 and imagine my delight and surprise when I saw that it was now open!
I knew that we had to go here after our lunch at the Haven...
According to that little Eater SD blurb, the ice cream comes from Fosselman's of Alhambra which is currently celebrating it's 95th Anniversary.
The guy in the Moosie's shirt turned out to be the owner's brother. He and his wife were visiting from New York and were there to help out his brother's business. When I asked how long they'd been open, he said, "About three hours!". They literally opened today at noon.
The store isn't quite finished yet in terms of decor inside. The black boards (chalk boards perhaps?) were empty slates maybe to be written in later with ice cream flavors or specials. The pink counter had two interesting gold seats at the end. During our visit, the shop was filled with moms and their young children.
There were many ice cream flavors available. Many are tried and true favorites like chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, pistachio, and several fruity gelatos. Sorry, it's kind of hard to see the flavors; they are written in grease pencil on the glass.
TC would LOVE that watermelon sorbet, but as you can see, that flavor, along with coconut, was "coming soon". No tubs there...yet!
It's a cute but narrow space. All seats were taken so we ended up enjoying our ice cream (courtesy of Mr. TJ) at the nearby park.
There were a lot of happy children (and adults) here this afternoon!

La Ley also chose the pistachio while MFH got the Mocha Almond Fudge.
Mr. TJ suggested that we walk to the nearby park which is next to the local library, Kensington/Normal Heights Branch, which sadly, is no longer yarnbombed.
Their scoops were on the pricier side ($3.50 here but at Fosselman's in Alhambra, scoops are $2.95) but the ice cream was of great quality. Each flavor we had was creamy and thick...
It was a fab way to end our afternoon...

I'll have to come back here again with Bert and TC to try their other flavors. The store just opened today and is going through what the owner's brother called, the "beta testing phase". I'm sure their grand opening is coming soon and am glad that we were able to try this place out.
