This time in Coronado instead of National City...
We hadn't been here in awhile and luckily Bert found parking on the street since the lot was full. Seems like everyone and their father was out here in Coronado today.

We shared the Pig Out Platter, choosing to get one portion of brisket and two portions of ribs...

Bert chose

He chose the Big Sky Moose Drool brown ale...

Along with the combo platter, we got a small order of the corn fritters (with honey/cinnamon butter), and a garden salad with roasted corn and jicama. The sauces were their house sauce, mustard, and also a spicy mango habanero (in the red container).

I wanted something healthy for all of us to share. The roasted corn was a nice touch...

TC chose the sides, mac 'n cheese and coleslaw.

We really liked these corn fritters...

Mmm corn!
I wanted to take Bert to the new ice cream place in North Park for dessert...

I'm glad he was agreeable to that! They still had their sign up from the day before. Although we didn't go to the Grand Opening, Kirbie did (read her post here!) and also enjoyed an ice cream flight...

This time, I was able to really look at that chandelier made of sundae glasses...

as well as the wall of vintage scoop!

Some flavors were crossed out since they were so popular during the Grand Opening. The ladies in front of us said they'd been yesterday and the day before that!

The other owner was there that day along with Trang, Ryan's wife.

I decided on a flight again, but with only three flavors...

Both Bert and TC got single scoops...

while TC had her usual go-to flavor, the Mango sorbet, this time in a cone...

My flight trio included: Poha Berry (also known as the Cape Gooseberry), Peanut Butter and Guava Jelly and the Hula Grill Coffee.

Bert's Kona Macadamia ice cream was very very nutty!

We all enjoyed our choices, although I couldn't really detect too much of the guava flavor in the PB and Guava Jelly. The Poha Berry was interesting with tiny bits of the fruit within but again, with a subtle fruit flavor.

Later that afternoon, we stopped by my parents where everyone was gathered (bro & sis and the kids). My parents made a lot of food for dinner because they like having all the grandkids over. My dad resurrected his Swiss Steak with mushroom gravy recipe. As a former Navy cook, he used to make this a lot. He used jack straw mushrooms instead of the regular button mushrooms, which gave this a bit of a twist.

We took home a little bit for dinner later on since we were still full from lunch.
My mom made Pork Ribs sinigang flavored with guava from their backyard. The vegetables were tomatoes and camote (sweet potato) leaves.

This is one of our favorite dishes to eat when growing up. Nothing beats my mom's cooking...

In a separate bowl was more camote, which was grown in their backyard...

This is also one of my favorite Filipino vegetables. It's so easy to grow too!
As as a special request from Nephew #3, fried wings which were practically attacked by the kids!

Of course, I "had to be polite" and had a "few" (a few meaning four!!!)
Dessert was the same as last year's Father's Day, the jello cubes with coconut and condensed milks and ice cubes...

We were so very happy that my dad was doing well from his earlier procedure that week. Two stents were put in and hopefully will help him our so he won't have shortness of breath and will prolong his life. Both of my parents are on stricter diets nowadays and are incorporating daily exercise into their routines.
Previous visit to Lil Piggy's:

Previous Father's Days:
2013 - The Barbecue Pit in National City
2012 - We spent this with C, FJ and her parents at Royal Michael's Bay Restaurant in Manitoulin Island
It was a whirlwind of a weekend...then it was off for our road trip!

Looks like Bert had a nice Father's Day! Good thing he didn't choose Phil's! We once went to Phil's on Father's Day and the take out line had a 20 minute wait just to get to the front! Insane.
Also: ooo, more ice cream!
Hi Mary - I was afraid it would be crazy busy at Lil Piggy's but so glad it wasn't. Phil's was not even considered. I hate the lines there and am not a fan of their style of bbq.
Yes, ICE CREAM!!!! You have to try this place out! :)
I know!! I need to try the ice cream flight.... maybe next weekend :)
Give it a shot! The idea of the flight has warmed up to me considering you only really need a "taste" to enjoy something instead of a big honking scoop.
