St. Rita's Church Bazaar

This was the first church festival we attended this summer. One of our good friends is very involved with St. Rita's Catholic Church, located off Euclid and Imperial.

We wanted to show our support for the dance troup and also check out this church festival compared to ours, especially foodwise...

The first booth we made a beeline for was the Samoan food booth. Unfortunately, they were already out of food (we arrived past 2:30 pm). According to one of our friends, they normally have hefty combo plates consisting of a variety of meats (ham, chicken, and pork) along with macaroni salad and a huge hunk of taro.  It was not to be that day. So, our second choice was this New Orleans Cooking booth, helmed by a very lovely and friendly African American woman.  We noticed that she fried our wings to order, which we really liked.

Our order consisted of 5 chicken pieces (2 wings and 3 drummettes) along with a side of range, celery, and carrots and a wrapped piece of garlic bread. Whatever was in the wings' breading was so tasty! This is something not offered at the St. Charles' Bazaar.

St. Rita's must have a very diverse congregation - Filipinos, African American, Mexican, Samoan and probably a few white folks.  It seems a bit more diverse than St. Charles which is mostly Filipino, Mexican and white.  We saw this booth but passed on it since we can get Filipino food anytime...

For TC, we got her a plate of rolled tacos...

Looks like they lowered their prices for the rolled taco plate by a quarter!

It was nice to see the salsas on ice too. No foodborne illnesses here!

Earlier, TC had one of their hamburgers while hanging out with her friends...

We ate our food in the comfort of the bingo room because first and foremost, they had A/C!

We had to listed to the guy calling out the numbers, but oh well, at least we weren't baking in the hot sun!

The rolled taco plate with rice and beans...

Our fried wings...

I'm not usually one for hot sauce, but wowee, it sure had a kick to it and made these awesome wings even better!

I know we could grill these better, but we were in the mood for these All American faves...

Bert hates ketchup on his hot dog, but allowed me to put some on my half, haha.

Their bazaar didn't have as many craft booths as St. Charles and had a diverse group of performers (singers, hip hops, cultural dancers, gospel choir)...I liked seeing the tremendous sense of community and camaraderie among the parishioners and the friendliness towards those who were new to the bazaar.

Summer is almost here!
