Scenes from the OB415

It was great seeing my cousin and niece again on the first day of our road trip this past Labor Day weekend. She was kind enough to gift us these San Francisco themed gifts...

We still haven't finished all of those chocolates. TC has already claimed the stickers and the calendar...

OB is the beach by the Sunset District. My cousin lives two blocks away from the beach. All of her kids surf and ride skateboards. The life here is pretty laidback and chill, or as they call it, "The Stoked Life".  The numbers "415" refer to the area code. I noticed that the folks here take great pride in their neighborhoods, which have their own little niches and main drags (Tarval, Noriega, Irving, etc)...

Near our motel was this other motel, the Roberts, which was on the seedy looking side. This was the one of the graffiti'd walls. I loved all of the street art we passed on our way to the beach, which was just a few steps away from John's Ocean Beach Cafe where we had that hearty breakfast.

Across the street (the south side) was the San Francisco Zoo where we would later attend the wedding of my former student. Once you cross the Great Highway, which runs parallel to the ocean, you will be at Ocean Beach. It was still quite early in the morning so there weren't a lot of folks on the beach. Maybe, there were a few folks walking their dogs or jogging, but for the most part, it was quiet except for the occasional seagull squawking away. The water here is really cold with strong and choppy waves.

TC was so very excited. Last time we saw my cousin was in 2009; TC and her cousins went to the beach to gather sand dollars. According to my cousin, they aren't there all the time, but when they are, they are quite abundant.

We especially liked seeing the graffiti on this structure:

The back view:

See the sign about the Snowy Plover?

We would later have a drink named after this endangered bird at a nearby coffee house.

I like this video, especially the view from up near the Cliff House. You can see the big stretch of sandy beach and if you look closely, you can even see the Dutch Windmill at Golden Gate Park.

When I saw this, I was thinking, "So that's what it's like on a nice day!" because the last time we saw the northern end view of the beach was during spring break and it was pouring buckets!!!

Next stop, a caffeine fix in the Outer Sunset...
