It's the return of the SF Road Trip pix from when we went up for my former student's wedding, which was held here, the SF Zoo...

located right across the street from this local eatery, John's Ocean Beach Cafe...

which is literally steps away from the beach. You can see the Great Highway at the intersection and after that is San Francisco's own Ocean Beach...
But first, breakfast on Day 2 of our mini road trip...
John's Ocean Beach Cafe was walking distance from our motel which was nice for us. We got there bright and early, like 8 am early to an empty restaurant. The first customers of the day I believe...

It looked like it had been there forever. There were framed photos and posters of movie stars and singers. It was a bit like pop culture mecca trying to identify many of the posters (Dirty Harry, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Frank Sinatra and even Laurel and Hardy to name a few)...

I ordered from the sides menu while Bert and TC got the specials...

I liked that Elvis' photo was placed prominently in a corner; his frame was also lacquered. Evlis was special.

Our breakfast in glorious technicolor:

TC's corned beef hash wth two poached eggs, served with toast and fruit. Now this was a hearty breakfast.

Bert had the special that was on the board, the Grilled rib eye scrambler with onions, peppers and mushrooms...

which was also quite filling...
As for me, I had a side of one scrambled egg with fruit, a side of sausage patties (I didn't expect three!) and ONE banana nut pancake. They also had a blueberry one that I was tempted to get but I knew I wouldn't be able to handle both. The banana nut was calling to me that morning and I am so glad I got it because it was one of the best pancakes I've ever had...

It was thin, buttery, chock full of nuts, with a sweet banana flavor. Best of all was the crisp exterior bathed in butter...

OMG...that crust! How could I not love this?

It felt like a crime to leave it uneaten but I did my best...
Our waitress was an older motherly type lady with a foreign accent (not sure if she was Russian) who wanted to make sure we were enjoying our breakfasts...
Before we left, I noticed this old jukebox...

The selections ranged from Dean Martin to U2, Peter Gabriel and of course, Elvis...

Here's one of the jukebox songs, "Sway" by Dean Martin himself:

There is no website but here are reviews from that four lettered site as well as tripadvisor, and citysearch.
Breakfast here was a great start of what would end up being a very long day. Our next stop was a block away...

Everything looks wonderful, but especially that pancake. I love the decor and furnishings here. What a great place for breakfast.
Yes, that pancake. I'm so glad I ordered the banana nut. It also with an apple cinnamon butter. So good.
I like cafes/diners like these where you know they've been around for a long time....it was also fun looking at all of the framed photos/posters.
