Guncotton? Gunco Ramen once more...

Last night I didn't feel like cooking and TC was craving Japanese food so...

we went to Guncotton  Gun Could, Gunco....

Haha, that's my $#%@ autocorrect for ya!  Happy Hour is from 5 to 7 pm and we were within the range. TC ordered a bento (chicken teriyaki and mixed tempura; she apologized for being "boring"), while Bert got something new, the Gyu Harami (seen below)...

I ordered several appetizers to share with Bert and TC, all of which were $3.95 except for the fried oysters (my favorite here). I got my favorites, the seaweed salad, the baked mussels, the fried oysters and tried something new, the pork sausage with sauteed baby potatoes (loved this!)...

This tasted so good with the hot mustard and tonkatsu sauce. The mussels weren't so bad either!

There were caramelized sauteed garlic cloves in here that made this appetizer stand out for me.

Bert's Gyu Harami, boneless Korean short rib. These had a nice grilled flavor. He enjoyed this with a side of rice along with bits and pieces of the other appetizers.

He also had a spicy tuna roll (again, $3.95) while I ordered the smoked salmon skin roll. What I loved about this was the roll also had attached meat to the skin, not just the crunchy skin.

Our favorite waitress was there, the young gal (early 20's). She even apologized that we couldn't get our "regular" table because someone else was already seated there.  The restaurant was quite busy that night and we saw the waitresses hustling back and forth between Gunco and Kanpai. The dining area was also punctuated with a group of older Nisei who were guffawing and cracking jokes with each other. They were pretty loud. I still think the demon children during one of our previous visits were worse though (they were actually screaming and running around and no one, not even the parents stopped them).

Previous visit to Gunco Ramen:
August 2014

This is one of our favorite local spots and we like how low-key this place is. The Happy Hour prices make it fun to try a lot of different things to enjoy...
