Since we didn't go, I thought Bert and I could give it a try for our mini crawl...
We've only been to the original location in Hillcrest, which serves as their main bakery. This new store opened in July and doesn't offer the full array of flavors as the Hillcrest store. It is meant to just be a storefront and not a full on bakery (but why call it a bake shop then?). It's right next to a Subway and offers shaded outdoor seating. See the orange barricades as well? They were setting up for the Silver Strand 5k the next day.

I liked seeing the classic "IB" logo with the sun on top. This used to be a popular motif seen on bumper stickers and t-shirts back in the 80's. Another version has a breaking wave underneath the letters.

See the red topped cupcakes? I remember these from the Red Velvet Cupcake Taste Off Mary organized earlier this year. We nicknamed them "Friday the 13th" cupcakes because the red sprinkles were like overkills. Ha, "My Bloody Valentine" cupcakes I called them.

There was actually a big selection of cupcakes the day of our visit. We only went with one, the salted caramel and opted for coffee drinks. The day was still young and we didn't have to pick up TC and her friend from their event until a few more hours.

My iced mocha (surprised?) and our salted caramel cupcake...

That was A LOT of frosting, I say. I liked how the cupcake was both chocoate and vanilla (but not marbled like I thought it might be). The cupcake was moist and we enjoyed the toffee pieces (or were they peanuts, I don't remember) and the salted caramel sauce on top...

The guy working here was really friendly. It wasn't busy the day we visited. The shop had a good selection of flavors and I liked that they had outdoor seating (since it was kind of dark inside). My blended mocha was also pretty good, giving me some much needed caffeine...

Kind of looks like there's another "bloody" cupcake below the red velvet, raspberry or berry looking I think. It still looks like a murderous cupcake to me, haha. I'd have probably picked a salted caramel to try, too!
Haha, I didn't notice that!
