Bert and I were on our own that night. TC was with her friends at a summer concert held at her high school. We remembered when we were that young and wanted to go to dances and games just to be out of the house. This would be her first "night" function" for high school (sniff sniff)...
Bert didn't want red meat and wanted to stay local so it would be easier to pick up TC later that evening. I suggested Gunco Ramen which we hadn't been to in nearly a year. This time we got the flavored sake ($4 a glass). They sell these bottles at $25 a pop which seems pretty $%@ expensive to me. Cathy texted me a photo a day later (she was at Mitsuwa) that the same bottles were sold for $10.99 for the large and $6.99 for the small (The brand was Takara, which is a company from Berkeley).

The flavors we got were raspberry for Bert and white peach for me. They both look the same, like water, but had a sweet fruity taste to them. I'll have to get the bottle at the Japanese market next time if we plan to ever drink this again.
We ordered from their Happy Hour menu where everything was #$3.95. So for all of these photos, only the fried oysters and the Chanpon were priced differently ($6.95 and $9 something respectively).
Fried oysters - nice and plump!

Lemon chicken:

Bert got the Chanpon this time. I only had a bit of it. Enjoyed it as I have in the past. Very hearty.

Seaweed salad which is mainly a little bit of actual seaweed on top of mixed greens with a sesame/soy/ginger dressing. TC enjoyed this later with the leftover lemon chicken.

Roasted mussels - these were so good!

The whole shebang...

Afterwards, we drove a few blocks down to get a few baked items at Moreliana bakery...

I wish they gave boxes instead of dumping everything into a paper bag. Oh well. Most of these were gifts for Cathy whom we would meet for brunch the following day.

The rundown - coyota de piloncillo (I got one for us), a slice of mixed chocoate/yellow cake loaf (I cut it in half later), a new item that I hadn't seen before, a cream cheese square, a ginormous Mexican wedding cookie, a cream cheese pastry (looks like a sunken in cupcake) and a fried sugared donut ring.

I got 8 pieces and it cost $6 total. My favorite is the coyota de piloncillo. The cream cheese square was pretty good with a tender and flaky pastry.
Who else went to Moreliana?
Here is Dennis's belated post from May 2014 (the visit was the previous winter); loved his cool shots with a retro vibe!

Auto Correct, I

Everything looks great CC! I'd visit Gunco more if they were closer to me.
Oh, I got "guncotton" when typing. Didn't know that was a word...
I have the same phone, I get irked too when the autocorrect goes wrong. And then I have to retype it. Jake hates it more than I do! I keep meaning to try out that bakery but I don't ever seem to remember it when we're down in CV (which has been more often actually since we like going to that cheap movie theater). The lemon chicken looks extra yummy and crispy!
Dennis - everything was pretty good, especially those fried oysters. that's my favorite.
ha ha, guncotton!!!!
mary - i love the camera feature on this phone. i just hate auto correct!!!! sometimes i don't feel like retyping and just leave in the wierd mistakes. the lemon chicken was pretty good!
