It's been awhile...Bean Bar and Bake Sale revisits

[Update - Bake Sale closed Spring 2017]

It's been more than a year...

and we still remembered how great the coffee was at Bean Bar in the East Village.

During a recent morning date, we made sure to stop by once again...

They had new signage painting on their windows as well as new signs  on the sidewalk. There was even a mini wheeled coffee cart inside.

They even changed up the artwork inside (see my first post for a comparison; linked at the end). The accent wall was no longer Robin's egg blue, but black. A new mirrored sign was also in place.

Their beans are sourced from a Vancouver based roaster, 49th Parallel. As with our previous visits, the owners were there (Jason and his girlfriend Sandra) and as friendly as ever. They really make their customers feel at home; there is no snobby airs here at all despite how hipster this place may look.

My macchiato with a shot of sparkling water plus Bert's Ethiopian pourover (which he didn't need to add any sugar  or cream to it since it was so smooth).

We shared a mushroom quiche from Sugar and Scribe...

Flaky on the outside with a savory filling.

The night before, Jason was at G&B at LA's Grand Central Market competing in an Aeropress coffeemaking competition (he didn't win). I saw it on IG the night before and asked him how it went. We have an Aeropress at home and I'm curious as to how one makes "recipes" using this. Bert uses it occasionally and it's pretty basic, but I guess there are some tricks out there maybe to jazz up your coffee?

We wanted something sweet after our morning coffee so we took a stroll over to another place we hadn't been to in awhile...

Iced cold brew with sugar and cream added...

What we shared - An English muffin with housemade strawberry jam:

This was our first time to try a non-processed English muffin (it's not Thomas's) and I was surprised to not see any "nooks and crannies". The surface of the cut toasted muffin was rather flat but still had a nice firm crunch to it, made even better with the jam.

For Bert, a pecan sticky bun...

This was quite decadent with lots of nuts, cinnamon and caramel glaze (we had to bring most of it home). So far, everything we've had here from the past and including today has been great. We'll have to come here again to make our way through their sweets offerings...

Previous visit to Bean Bar:
February 2015

Previous visit to Bake Sale:
September 2014 (Wow, I can't believe I waited this long!)

We really like the folks at Bean Bar.The owner, Jason and his girlfriend are so friendly to everyone. They know their regulars, their shop is dog friendly and they make great drinks here!  As for Bake Sale, it's a cute little shop with delicious bites (both savory and sweet). Their coffee isn't as good but then, it's a bakery, not a coffee shop.  The ladies who work here are super nice as well.  Bert and I are trying to do our downtown coffee spot revisits (WestBean, you're next!).
