Cotija's, Santee

With my one lone blueberry filledpowdered donut in tow, breakfast was just up the street...

literally a few steps away from the original Mary's Donuts...

at Cotija's taco shop.

This would be our late breakfast...and one of these days (just not today), we will have to try their famous shrimp burrito.

The building itself was really old but once you step in, it's an explosion of color on the walls and the decor. There are so many beautiful handpainted tiles and paintings depicting scenes from Mexico.

These were the tiles at the ordering counter (that's TC's foot). Love it!

And those are my feet!

Their condiment bar with pickled carrots, jalapenos, fresh radishes, lime slices and four types of salsas.

The dark red salsa had some heat; we could taste the roasted peppers in there.  Very good this was.

Bert and I shared a machaca burrito while TC had the cheese enchilada combo (which we helped her finish).

This was pretty filling and it was good that Bert and I shared because a whole one would have been way too much food (unless one was super super hungry).

Eggs, shredded beef, onions...what  else could be better?

Well, possible their hash brown burrito which we saw on the menu but vowed to get next time.  I noticed that they didn't have potato tacos at this location like they do at our local Cotija's (in Bonita).

The guys working here are really really nice. They had a steady stream of customers during our short time there. I was itching to go to the new Mary's. We're glad we stopped by Cotija's and yes, we'll try that shrimp burrito next time.

Our favorite taco shop of the 15 in Santee! Chile relleno burrito is my choice for 'meatless' days(pretty sure the beans have lard). The Mister really likes the shrimp quesadilla.

I need to try that Chile relleno burrito too. Wow, 15 taco shops is a lot of choices.
