We'd been to the Blue Bottle in SF before; the Echo Park location is their outpost in Southern California...
It's very spare inside, as most of these places seem to be. It's either overly rustic or industrial or clean lined. Unlike Woodcat, it was much more spacious and we were happy to have found seating.

Our drinks - Bert's house coffee, TC's cascara soda (a tea made from the skin of the coffee cherry) and my New Orleans style iced coffee.

Caffeine galore:

TC could only take a few sips of this. The caffeine in here proved to be too strong for her. It had an interesting taste to it. She tried something similar a few weeks later at the newly opened Hawthorn Coffee later that month (January).

I've had the iced chicory coffee before at the Ferry Building in SF and liked that it was already pre-sweetened. Bert's enjoyed his house coffee and didn't feel the need to add anything else to it. I thought it was pretty strong.

The market down the street from Blue Bottle...Images of the VoG are everywhere in Echo Park.

There would be one more stop before heading back to San Diego. I was pretty happy with the shots we ended up with on our camera for our holiday photo card. It helps to have and use an old school tripod!
