From the very new Imperial Grounds Coffee to the newly opened Pappalecco over in Kensington...
we were excited by the new additions to San Diego's neighborhoods...
KD had just been here (she works nearby) and said she liked her mini panini sandwich with pesto and chicken. This Pappalecco location serves not only gelato but also savory foods like sandwiches, pizza, and salads.
We ended up sitting waaaay in the back, away from the noisy front part of the restaurant (of course, the photo below shows it empty looking but earlier it was packed).
Our second breakfast, ha ha.
TC's "build your own salad" - greens with fresh mozzarella cheese, tofu (for her protein; vegetarian she still is), and toasted bread. Her salad was quite sizable and pretty to look at as well as delicious tasting.
For me and Bert, the Prosciuttino and Cottino (mini prosciutto and cotto salame paninis):
Loved the fresh mozzarella cheese within. These were the perfect small bites.
We couldn't leave without having some gelato. This was the pera (pear) that Bert and I shared, and TC's stracciatella (cream base with chocolate streaks, not really chips). I liked that the gelato was fully packed into the cup. It didn't seem to melt as fast since the gelato was also not as "melty" from what I've had at the other location of Pappalecco.

I wish I lived in this neighborhood. There are so many nice restaurants here, plus ice cream, pizza and a library (The Haven, Blue Boheme, Moosie's, etc)...
There was a time when the neon neighborhood sign was temporarily gone (it was in for repairs I believe). It didn't seem the same until it went back up again.

KD is so lucky that she works nearby. There are some cute lunch spots on this street. We noticed that the line for Kensington Cafe was super long (on our way there and on our way out). It reminded me of that funny Portlandia episode where everyone was in line for some popular brunch spot but no one in line for a hole in the wall eatery. Anyhow, we plan to try their other mini sandwiches in the near future and of course, that gelato.
