I'm always on the lookout for hipster coffee shops...
Echo Park was no exceptions. In fact, there were TWO coffeeshops within steps away of each other. The first one we went to was Woodcat Coffee Bar.

Their menu is simple, the way it should be. Again, none of that flavored syrup crap. I noticed they had a pumpkin pie latte as an offering though. I'll pass on that.

It's so cute in here and I love the color scheme.

Bert's macchiato and my cortado.

The latte art on both were kind of ugly and messy though. Bert's macchiato was with soy and my cortado was subbed with almond milk. That could be a reason why the design wasn't so nice since there's no fat in soy and almond milk and doesn't have the same properties of steamed milk.

In any case, both of our coffees were really good, smooth and went down easily. No bitterness. I was enamored of Bert's cup and saucer.
Colorful murals along the same stretch of the street:

These murals on the side of a clothing store depicted three Latina icons - artist Frida Kahlo, labor activist Dolores Huerta and slain Tejano singer Selena.

And look what we have here...tin VoG coin banks at a discount store next door.

Only $1!

As if this wasn't enough caffeine, there was yet ANOTHER coffee shop just literally steps away. We could not pass this up since this is the only SoCal outpost of this particular coffee shop. But first...a short foray into a self-styled quirky store, also on the same street.
