Summer Road Trip 2014 - Day 1: Central Coast here we come! But first...Cream Pan!

It seems like we can't take any kind of road trip unless we pass by Cream Pan in Tustin...

They're open super early and we got there a few minutes after they opened their doors...

The smell of freshly baked bread and pastries filled the air...

It was just me since TC fell asleep in the car and we didn't want to wake her up.  I got a few things for us to enjoy for later and made sure to use their uh, facilities before the next leg of our trip.

I thought this sign was very detailed with a 70's looking font for "wash your hands" along with a translation in what I think is Vietnamese.  Interesting that Vietnamese would be on the sign in a Japanese bakery.

Our breakfast items - (wrapped) hot dog bread for TC, chocolate croissant, almont croissat and the chocolate orange pastry that I saw last time I was here but didn't get.

This particular pastry turned out to be one of the best pastries I've ever tasted!

The pastries were boxed up and opened once we got to our next stop which was the very small town of Gorman. The sun was already out. We left our home at 4:15 in the $%#@ morning!

We usually stop by this gas station during our road trips. Bert likes to clean the windshield. Their bathrooms are also quite decent here.

The parking lot was where we enjoyed our pastries. Just look at this! The tiny cubes of bread were so buttery and dense and infused with delicious orange flavoring and chocolate chips.

I loved the flavor combination and can't wait to find another excuse to go up north to get this again!

Previous visit to Cream Pan:
June 2014 during my road trip with Cathy of mmm-yoso to see the 2015 Rose Parade float road test

I don't know if I ever posted their website before (if I didn't, then this is new!):
www.creampanbakery.com
They have mouthwatering photos of their pastries (all of which are excellent!)!

Previous Gorman mention:
"The drive up and Apricot Tree" where we had crappy pie at the Apricot Tree restaurant. The only saving grace was their AWESOME collection of vintage metal lunchboxes!

Bert was liking that we had lots of little "pitstops". It made the trip a little more bearable. I even drove an hour or so! In fact I drove to the next stop along the 46 highway. We were making good time but not in a rush to get to our destination...

Orange-Chocolate became a favorite combination when we first had it in London. I hadn't seen that pastry here before and didn't notice it last weekend- because Cream Pan was SOLID packed with teens/College Orientation at 6:20 on Saturday morning and I just wanted to get in and out. We did purchase the cheese melt this time-new and wondrous- along with ham and cheese and strawberry croissants

Hi Cathy - Next time you and your husband do your float road test trips, maybe you can try that orange chocolate pastry. it's so so good! the cheese thing you got is called a 'cheese boule' (according to their website menu) strawberry croissants are a must have from cream pan. :)

Ooo, that Orange Chocolate pastry looks so good! I'm going up to Long Beach tomorrow, but I don't think I'll have time to stop by Cream Pan unless I leave extra extra early. And I kind of want to sleep, haha.
