The old Rubio's is now Bruxie

[Update - Closed as of October 2016]

Bruxie is now in San Diego in the College Area after a failed attempt to include it in the hoity toity Headquarters near Seaport Village...

I'm actually glad it's in a more plebeian area and what better place to put in than next to SDSU, right across the new suspension bridge...

For us "old timers" that went to State, we will note that the new Bruxie used to be the old location of Rubio's Fish Taco's! I remember eating many a fish taco there in the late 80's...

And looka here, yo'! They accept SDSU meal plans!

Things have indeed changed over the years with previously dismal food choices from West and East Commons on campus. Despite having had a delicious ravioli lunch (a half portion I must emphasize), TC and I still wanted to come here. She wanted a sweet waffle and well, I ended up getting a breakfast one! It was pretty busy when we got there but there was still room to eat outside under their covered patio.

Did anyone try their July 4th Special?  I didn't feel like spending $17.95 on the lobster waffle.

We saved half of our waffles for Bert to try later that afternoon...

My breakfast waffle with two sausage patties and a fried egg. TC got the waffle filled with creme brulee and sliced strawberries and whipped cream.

The egg was on the runny side which icked me out a tiny bit, but I got over it because that savory waffle was so light and crispy and I wished I could take a stack home but that wasn't an option.

TC really enjoyed her waffle which had bits of pearl sugar embedded in the waffles. It did give it a nice bit of sweet crunchiness. I just didn't like the soft texture of the filling which was basically cut up flan in a waffle.

Here is the view from our table in the back...the new Aztec Center located across the bridge.

I'm sure this place will be VERY popular especially so once school starts at the end of the month.  I loved the waffles' taste and texture. It's great that there are a lot of options here but I would probably like it better having the waffle on the side so that it doesn't get soggy, but that's just me.

Who else went to Bruxie?
Darlene did a write up for Zagat SD:
"What to eat at Bruxie, including the Secret Menu" June 25, 2014
Kirbie also wrote about her recent visit where she and her DH were able to try both savory and sweet items.

Kirbie's previous visit was at their Orange location, which also links Darlene's post (also the same location).

Another trip before the SDSU school year begins is in order...you know, for "research" purposes!

I know! It's ridiculous that one waffle is $5.50 (with syrup or powdered sugar).

We went here last Sunday. Sadly they were out of the apple pie whatever it was called 4th of July special, but that's okay. We got something really good for dessert (the waffle sundae). I like how light the waffles are for the sandwiches. That breakfast sandwich looks killer! I think we'll have to visit a few more times before school starts back up and there will be zero parking again.
