Return to Blackwell's Corner

If you head west on the 46, you will end up at the coast, but we planned to make another stop before our next leg...

I believe I was driving during this bit since Bert was a bit tired from earlier...

It's nice when the roads aren't crowded but man, it's a bit boring out here with long stretches of farmland...

along with dirt, dirt, and more dirt and the insectoid looking oil drills as we neared our destination.

which was Blackwell's Corner, which bills itself as "James Dean's last stop"...

This is the view as you make a left at the light (photo taken by Bert)...

Like last time, it was super windy and cold outside. We didn't take any pix near the big James Dean cutout.

This was the rather unintentionally scary looking mannequin that implored shoppers to request free samples of their fudge (and nuts).

I thought this guy looked a bit creepy. They couldn't get a more pleasant looking mannequin I  guess. He looks like an older version of Lurch from The Adams Family that would say, "You raaaaaaang?"

I actually typed in "you rang" for youTube and this popped up! Perfect, ha ha!

They had so many flavors of nuts here. Everthing was in ziplocks that held about a pound. I wish they had smaller sizes because a pound of nuts is a lot. You'd have to really like it to finish it before they start getting stale.

Towards the back near the 50's diner was this old truck made to look like a wagon filled with farm and kitchen implements. There were propped up poster frames with information about the town and the vintage items displayed. Not pictured was an old granny mannequin (she looked like the old lady from "The Beverly Hillbillies").

TC originally wanted a milkshake but ended up getting a root beer float. They used Dreyer's ice cream (not the greatest) and it was served in a styrofoam cup (kinda ugly). Bert bought a couple of bags of almonds, one honey orange and the other hickory smoked. I thought the sweeter almonds were on the stale side and liked the hickory ones much better.

One last look before continuing our way out west where our next stop would be in the town of Paso Robles...

Yep, this was our view...

Although I was craving caffeine, I was going to wait until we got to downtown Paso Robles. We wanted to do more stops this trip to make it more fun and also to explore some of the towns we always see on the maps but never look at.

Previous visit back in February 2014

Lunch would be up the road and it would also have a James Dean connection...

I'd like to drive up California one of these days just to see it all. We did it when I was a kid, but I hardly remember (I probably slept most of the way). Again, neat stop! I bet I would stop here, too.

if you and Jake ever do a road trip and cut across the 46, this is a 'must stop'! even if just to use the bathroom, haha.
