Last week I took TC and one of her friends to PB to go thrift store shopping...

We went early enough so parking was easy to find. In fact, several thrift stores were within walking distance from where I parked so that was quite convenient...
One of those stores had this clock which reminded me of the one we used to have in the 70's. It looks just like this. I'm compelled to dig up the photo albums at my parents' house just to make a comparison.

I also saw these vintage glass - the first two are from McDonald's featuring the Hamburglar and Captain Crooks. Those glasses were going for $14.99! The third glass was from Marvel and featured an angry looking duck that resembled Donald Duck for $9.99. If you are old enough to remember, "Howard the Duck" was one of the worst movies of all time! It was a massive box office flop and the studio lost a lot of money on this.

He sure looks like Donald Duck to me. I wonder if this was pirated or something.

He's supposed to look like this:

I did buy ONE item for $1.9i9and it was this....

We used to have about four of these then they either got broken, lost, or sold at a garage sale.

I thought Bert would get a kick out of this Old Spaghetti Factory glass and that TC would enjoy drinking Italian soda out of this.
The girls were able to find a few pieces from the various thrift stores. For lunch, we got out of PB and headed over to Ranch 99 for hot pot. The $9.99 lunch special only applied to certain types of meats, so unfortunately, the Seafood Hot Pot wasn't part of it, but I still got it anyways for all of us to share.

After having eaten here several times in the past, I'm wondering if their service is normally crappy. The guy didn't give us waters until reminded. He also didn't give us sauces for the noodles until reminded as well. It wasn't even crowded so I have no idea what the hold up was for the slow service here.

TC's lychee milk tea in those ginormous mugs and my water which came in a fancy glass. This was new.
We shared the Fried Calamari appetizer, which had a thick (almost too thick) batter. Oh yeah, it didn't come with a dipping sauce and I had to ask for one. WTH man. The other appetizers were the green onion pancake (I really liked this last time I was here) and the cream cheese rolls (there were originally 5 or 6 pieces).

We were thinking about Up2You for brick toast but I didn't want to deal with crappy parking so we went to Ice Blast instead (in the lot with Phuong Trang). I remembered they had a Happy Hour special.

Just for fun, here is photo of Ice Blast taken last year when Hair Duck (a hair salong) was still there.

(photo from my "Master Blaster - Ice Blast" post, September 2013)
Hair Duck is now called Gina Hair! Both names still don't make sense.

(photo from my "Phuong Trang & Big Joy two fer" post, March 2014)
Ice Blast still has Happy Hour but the price has been raised by .50, so now, a "tiny" cup is $1.50.

Still, three of these cost less than one brick toast with toppings at Up2You Cafe.

The girls got Blue Vanilla with Rootbeer plain, and Blue Raspberry with Mango (on the ends) with condensed milk.

I got three flavors - blue vanilla, banana and POG (passionfruit, orange and guava) with Li Hing Mui powder, condensed milk and sea salt on top.

Even though this was the smallest size, none of us finished our shave ice desserts, but it was very refreshing to have on such a hot day.
We also walked over to Big Joy Bakery where I picked up a new mac flavor (or at least one I haven't seen before), Citrus...

Their macs are always consistent in size, texture and flavors. These had a nice citrus zing to them. The afternoon of our visit, the mac cases were empty and the worker was busy filling them with this new flavor.

Even though it it still summer, gone are the days where I can go out either with TC or a friend. Work started last Friday and it's back to homemade lunches!

A trifecta of familiar, comfortable food! We haven't been to Ice Blast in a while, and these hot days would make it a perfect stop...and I do miss the hot pot and snack apps from E&D...and citrus sounds yummy. For once, with no provocation, I thought of something dirty when I saw 'Gina Hair'.
OMG Cathy - re: Gina Hair. that's so funny!!! I didn't even think of that but now that you mention it...ugh!
Ice blast was good but I guess they felt they needed to raise the Happy Hour price.
I haven't been to E&D in awhile but I'd like to visit again. Bummer they forgot all your sauces, man. I must have not ever noticed Ice Blast before - those ices look HUGE and that's a small?! I haven't heard of adding salt before, either. I imagine it would help increase the flavor.
Also: Howard the Duck was so so so so bad. hahah. That glass totally looks more like Donald Duck... rip off!
I haven't seen the whole movie, but just snippets and it sucked so much, haha.
I think I just go to E&Drink for the novelty of the hot pot. Thinking back on past visits, the service isn't that great.
as for ice blast, you have to go there!!!! and it's next to Big Joy too. that wasn't a small, but a 'tiny'. i think they had a 'small' size but it was waay bigger. the salt is subtle, but good.
Citrus flavor mac? I'd try it!
OOoooooo, Howard the Duck. There are just some things a person's eyes should never be subjected to. I'm sure Lea Thompson has plenty of regrets on that choice (lends a new meaning to "go *uck a duck.")
I think you'd like the citrus mac. :)
Speaking of Howards, but not the 'duck", did you know that Lea Thompson ended up dating and then marrying Howard Deutch (who directed 'Pretty in Pink' and 'Some Kind of Wonderful', the 2nd movie which she was in). Yeah, she should keep "Howard the Duck" off her resume, haha.
