The park ranger at the beach parking lot told us that there was a $15 fee (yikes). She waived it when we told her that we just wanted to use the restroom facilities....
The day we left SF was the same day this huge storm hit the Bay Area. One of our friends and his family were camping in Morro Bay (where we would end up visiting during our Summer Road Trip). They had planned to go surfing but had to stay hunkered down in their camper with their dog because of the heavy rain and rough conditions.

Bert noticed this place when we drove down to the beach. We ended up driving back up so we could have lunch at Sam's Chowder House.

Lobster Roll? Yes please.

Our super late lunch also because over very early dinner. We'd been snacking on and off all that day. We got three items which were shared: the famous Lobster Roll with coleslaw and potato chips, a small bowl of clam chowder, and a strawberry and beet salad (with the horrid feta cheese on the side).

This roll was chock full of meaty and buttery lobster pieces. At $21.95, it better be!!!! The sandwich was really tasty and was enjoyed by everyone.

The chowder was just okay; it seemed a bit too "herby" for me, but TC ended up having most of it.

This salad was actually pretty good except for the overabundance of frisee. The dressing was a citrus vinaigrette which went well with the bitter greens and the roasted yellow beets and sliced strawberries. Lots of good flavor in this salad.

I want more of this lobster now, haha!

The views from out back. I'm sure it looks a lot nicer on a sunny and clear day.

Off we go...

It would be nice to explore more of this town in a future visit...

We made our way down the 101 driving through intermittent bursts of heavy rain and light showers...

Driving past San Jose was the worst because of all the traffic. We originally planned to stay near Palo Alto but after seeing the astronomical prices of hotel rooms in Silicon Valley opted to go farther south for our last hotel stay.

Let's see, $350 a night versus $90? Yes, it's Gilroy which isn't glamorous but it was a place to snooze before our long drive back home.

and this post!
We were so tired once we got to our hotel in Gilroy that we never even left the room until the next morning. Yep, no dinner. We just weren't feeling hungry so we stayed in, watched TV and crashed while it rained and rained...

Yum, that lobster roll looks awesome! It basically just looks like big chunks of lobster piled on top of bread, no fillers! Much better than having to dig through and crack open lobsters yourself. I'd much rather someone else do all of that for me, haha.
Hi Mary - yes it was but man was it pricy!!!! Lots of lobster though!!!!
