Remember to park in the BACK of the Mall of Fortune if you want easy access to Brodard's. Just look for the maroon awnings that say "Nem Nuong Restaurant"...
There was a massive wait in line (it ended up being about 30 minutes, yikes!). While I stood in line (after writing in my name on list at the podium), Cathy checked out the nem nuong assembly line and the macarons in the display case. I also noticed a couple of gentlemen with familiar looking cups. They had SEA SALT COFFEE. There was an 85C here!!! Of course, we would have to go there later...
My mac flavors were: lychee (the two tone), taro, key lime and passionfruit. One set was for me, the other for my sis.

At Brodard's, it would be remiss of us to NOT order their signature item. Well, we got not only that but two other "must have" items to try.
Firstly, the nem nuong (pork paste rolls). Any other version I've had in San Diego (even Pho Ban Mai's) pales in comparison to this. Their sauce is like crack here.

One for each of us. The other two were for our husbands.
The other two items were the Banh Kot (shrimp filled luna cakes; it's like a mini banh xeo) and the Banh Tom (sweet potato and shrimp fritter) which were both served with fresh herbs, lettuce and nuoc mam cham. The shrimps for the fritters had their shell on and is meant to be eaten shell and all.

Everything was delicious and I'm already thinking of when we can come here again...
Here is Wandering Chopstick's wonderful recipe for Banh Tom:
Banh Tom - Vietnamese shrimp and yam fritters". I loved seeing how she arranges the sweet potato "nests" before frying them...
Previous visit to Brodard's:
July 2013 wth my SIL
This was such a great little snack to round out our day, which was nearing it's end. But of course, we weren't done just quite yet...There was still a matter of checking out the other side of the Mall of Fortune...

The luna cakes look like cute little shrimp boats. The fritter looks so good! I like how you can see the shrimp and the sweet potato and it's all kind of fused together. Looks really delicious.
Hi Mary - you would LOVE those banh kot! they are little shrimpy bundles of goodness! same with the fritter but i would have preferred eating the shrimp shelled.
Apparently now I just read your posts and don't comment. Thank you for showing me this place, where to park and things to order. Took The Mister (it's barely 80 minutes if no traffic and opens at 8 a.m.) and he was fascinated with seeing hundreds of boat shaped serving plates and ordering more from the menu while we were eating...
hi cathy - thanks for commenting though! glad you liked it enough to go back and bring your husband.
they have great presentation here with those boat shaped dishes. they must do a ton of dish washing here with all those little sauce bowls and containers and such.
