Real Food Grocer Cafe Fortuna & passing through Willits

Luckily, I was not attacked by the birds near the trash dumpsters by Dutch Bros. Coffee!

Two hours had elapsed while on the road and it was time to make a pitstop here in Fortuna.

Our scientific method was just looking at a map and guesstimating which towns by the freeway were easiest to stop at, giving us two hour increments.  We were heading down to SF for our epic 20 Anniversary Road Trip.  It wasn't blazing hot just yet...

This lovely view was while waiting for Bert to buy gas in Fortuna. Like many of the small towns we drove through, they all had a Main Street named, well, Main Street.

Some of the businesses on Main St. plus their Masonic building..

I loved the vintage Theater sign. Every little town has to have one of those.

There was a somewhat new'ish (opened late 2014) health food store and eatery here, Real Food Grocer Cafe.

Banana slugs are a thing up North. See those boxed candies though? $8! Whaaaa!

For our snack, we chose huckleberry and raspberry scone,  a lime corn cookie, and a breakfast burrito for TC. The pastries come from a local bakery, Los Bagels.

It was spacious inside and served as both an eatery, a gathering place and a mini market.

The decor was cool too, featuring comic and movie posters. The gal working there was really nice too.

Bert enjoyed seeing the Marvel characters as decor in this cafe.

The breakfast burrito had egg, cheese, and bacon (yes, TC ate it since she was hungry) with housemade salsa.

The colors of that mixed berry scone were just beautiful. It was not dry, but moist and full of delicious berries.

The lime corn cookie was a bit different. It was pretty big and not too thin or thick. You can see the lime glaze on top of the cookie as well as the lime zest. It tasted refreshing, if a cookie can be called that. The crunch from the corn meal was also quite nice.

We were glad that we stopped by this little cafe.

One of the rest stops we visited...this was right off the Redwood Highway near the town of Willits.

Old school sign. Still in Willits.

I loved the colorful hanging flowers cascading over the pots. Points for curb appeal. If I did that for our house, the flowers would probably be burnt to a crisp since our house faces west.

Actually, these last few photos are in Ukiah which was our next stop (pee stop  and drinks!)

Northern California yo'.

I forgot to mention that while en route to Eureka a few days prior, the passenger side window was broken. I could not use the automatic window level to open or close the window. Luckily, the window was closed when it got messed up. I couldn't take photos with the window rolled down, hence many reflective glass shots.  TC and I traded places a few times, which made her very happy sitting in the front while I got to zone out in the backseat.

I'm not sure if this place is even open still.  It was already pretty $%#@ hot and would be even hotter when we arrived at Ukiah...
