Bert dropped off mail at a nearby post office with cool architectural details (this was on 4th St).
Signs downtown pointed us in different directions...

but we would do our walk after having our coffee and morning snack.
I was disappointed that the Petaluma Historical Library Museum was not open during our stay in Petaluma. They opened the day after we left, which didn't help. I was so curious to be inside a former Carnegie Library. The other Carnegie Library we've seen is at Paso Robles, which is now the Paso Robles Historical Society; sadly, during our visits there, the building was also closed. They just look so imposing and steeped with hidden stories...

I'm a big fan of documenting posters of upcoming events. This one was keeping with the Alice in Wonderland theme that the City was having for a fundraiser. I was excited to see this because the San Diego Fair's theme was also Alice in Wonderland (meets Steampunk) related.

Our view at the coffee shop:

Just around the corner on Liberty Street were two homes featured in the thriller, "Basic Instinct" (1992) To be honest, I am NOT a fan of that movie, which is notorious for Sharon Stone's infamous leg crossing scene. Ugh. But for perverts out there, I'm sure it was great.

along with St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church across the street.

The church had their Easter lilies ready...

We took a quick peek inside...

A painting of the Virgin of Guadalupe was located near the statues of Mary.

After enjoying some peace and solitude in the church, we walked further up Liberty Street where we saw the Petaluma headquarters for the Bernie Sanders campaign. TC was excited because she saw him in the summer when he was in San Diego and again in National City's Kimball Park.

Lovely gingerbread Victorian homes, also on Liberty Street.

Further up the hill was the other house I wanted to see, known as "Peggie Sue's House" from the movie, "Peggie Sue Got Married", which featured a very young Kathleen Turner (before she was known as Chandler Bing's drag queen father on "Friends") and Dennis Quaid. That movie, like "American Graffiti" was also filmed in Petaluma.

I wonder if the people living there are used to

By this time, it was starting to get a little warmer. We still had to walk back to the hotel before going to this farm that TC wanted to see.
Down the street was the historic Phoenix Theater which used to be an opera house, then morphed into a movie theater and a rock and roll venue and teen center.

This restaurant, Volpi's was also historic. Pretty much everything in downtown Petaluma is.

Maguire's Pub across the street has an impressive exterior, and is housed in the Old Opera House building.

More event posters..

Plus a local bookstore...

It was fun just walking on the main streets and looking at window displays.

We hastily overlooked another other building that was in "Flubber" (a church that was ironically near St. Vincent's.
One thing that we liked about downtown Petaluma was that everything was very walkable. Our hotel was five blocks away and while I would've balked at that in the past, it was a nice change of pace being more "pedestrian" while on vacation. Up next, a look at a farm and a local community favorite exercise spot (both chosen by TC)...
