Robitaille's Fine Candies + return to Carpinteria State Beach

Earlier we were curious about Robitaille's Fine Candies...

Sadly, it was closed. Several young boys on skateboards were also bummed out. We ended up coming a little later after having had pastries across the street at Reynaldo's Bakery.

Every town has to have a candy shop and Carpinteria was no exception...

The store was decorated for July the 4th and as you stepped in, it felt like you stepped back in time with the retro feel.

Bert's dark chocolate covered  almonds and TC's dark chocolate covered honeycomb chunks. Everything in this candy shop is homemade. They had a great selection of candies and it sure smelled good in there too!

As we headed west on Linden St., we passed by The Spot burger place once more (no lunch here though; we ended up going to a local diner for a late lunch).

Once again, the hot dog and shave ice cart near the beach...

I can't get over how nice their beaches are over here. The sand is so nice and clean. It wasn't even crowded.

Our trusty umbrella, shading me from the sun, ha ha.  This was the third time we'd been at a beach during our vacation.

Since I am afraid of water, I'd rather just chill out under the shade and read (I did bring some books, nerd that I am).  Plus, I got to snack on some of those candies from Robitaille's while Bert and TC were in the water.

Local news story about the passing of the founder, Guy Robitaille:

He was a well known local figure and was quite proud that his candy store provided mints for Presidential inaugurations. Darn, we should've bought some of those famous mints while we were here.

Documentary about Robitaille's (ignore the first few seconds of the dial tone):

There were so many cool businesses along this stretch of Linden Street. It was nice to be able to explore it more thoroughly this time.  We needed to have lunch (it was way after the lunch hour) before making our way to Ventura...
