There are a variety of retail shops and businesses here and also across the street.

Our lunch spot for this day would be the one in the corner, Hugo's...
which, after reading online, I was curious about. Hugo's is owned by an Asian family and has been there for at least ten years. The food served here is American breakfast and comfort food as well as some Asian (fried rice, udon, teriyaki beef and chicken as seen in their lunch specials). We were greeted warmly by the owners and despite the fact that we got there right before they were going to close (about 30 minutes from their close time of 2 pm), they did not try to rush us.

The cherry blossom branches on the ceiling was an interesting way to decorate. We placed our orders and the food came out less than ten minutes later.

Cheeseburger and fries for TC, turkey sandwich with potato salad for Bert and you can probably guess what I had just by looking...

My standard chicken fried steak with toast, hashbrowns and scrambled eggs. Very filling and satisfying.
TC's burger which she liked well enough...

Bert's sandwich also hit the spot that afternoon.

Not the greatest I've had (I wasn't a fan of that gravy) but the hash browns had a very nice and crisp crust.

Crispy chicken fried steak underneath where it wasn't drowned in gravy. Service was friendly but I still felt kind of bad arriving so close to closing when they probably thought they were done for the day, but oh well.

Interestingly enough, although this strip mall had Hugo's, a diner, plus Taco Bell and a few other chains, they also had a place called the Food Liaison. If I had looked them up before deciding on Hugo's, I think we probably would have eaten there since they had healthier food offerings (including vegan and vegetarian, not that I am because I'm not but sometimes TC likes going to these places). I remember seeing the signage too.
It was time to finally make our way to Ventura and check into our hotel...
