One of the most noticeable buildings was this one...

The Acorn Building was once known as the Blackburn building, named after James and Daniel Blackburn, the town's founders...
The clock tower building is over 100 years old and was destroyed in the San Simeon earthquake in 2003. The building has since been refurbished (and hopefully retrofitted for earthquakes). In a prominent spot is the newest location of the Brown Butter Cookie Company, which originated in Cayucos. As we walked in, we could smell the freshly baked cookies.

Customers are immediately greeted and offered free samples here. I only wanted to buy a few cookies for us. In fact, I was planning to buy a lot more in Cayucos as gifts. They had a few new flavors like citrus (with has a spicy kick) and almond. They used to sell the cookies in packages of a half dozen to a dozen. Now they have a newer and smaller "trio" size. Yay! That meant, I could buy more flavors.

The cookie place was located across Centennial Park. The brick building is a Carnegie Library which now houses the Paso Robles Historical Society Museum.

Just strolling around the park, it felt like we were back in time, with children playing about, folks flying kites, and playing ball. This place really had that old fashioned feel to it.
The trio of cookie flavors we bought were espresso, citrus, and the original brown butter sea salt. Each pack was about $3.25 (or was it $3.50?).

I liked every flavor but wasn't too keen on the citrus. I was expecting it to be citrus only, but the cookie had an interesting flavor twist because of the addition of cayenne pepper which gave it a subtle spicy kick. The cookies are small but dense and shortbread like. You can really taste the butter and the sea salt gives it a nice little touch as well.

After just a few bites, we packed these up to save for later. It was time to do a little exploring.

One of the items on TC's "wish list" (she only had three) was candy...Well, that was easy. Within walking distance was a very cute old time looking candy shoppe...

I know this isnt the one you got the gifts from, but i am so happy I got to try these cookies!
hi kirbie - glad you liked them! those other ones i gave out were bought 2 days later. the lady at the counter said they were good for 3 weeks. :)
They had an expiration date and I had the last one (half of one cookie from one package) past that date...and it was still wonderful. Thank you so much for sharing this wondrous cookie.
Brown butter cookies sound awesome! The little town looks so nice and kind of quaint. The clock tower kind of got me thinking about Hilldale in Back to the Future!
Hellz yeah man. This was such a cute little town. I want to check out a few wineries next time we do a road trip.
