Below, the Port-Cochere which was built in 1872 along with the Necropolis Chapel, which is a really beautiful example of High Victorian Gothic Architecture.

We didn't stay too long inside. We wanted to check out the grounds as well...

As we passed through the side, we saw this pretty iron gate...
The crematorium was build in 1933 and was Ontario's first crematorium. I don't know about you, but that word "crematorium" just sounds so cold and creepy. Like sanitarium.

If you ever go here, you can get a map of the grounds from the front office. The map has all the different highlight, plots of famous Torontians, etc. See how nice and sunny everything is in the photo? This was to change within the hour.
There was a burial taking place as we passed through the gates. It was a small funeral party from what I observed (not pictured). One thing about these old cemeteries, they sure do love their obelisks.
I liked the moss covered look of this gothic marker.
We didn't stay too long here either. Just wandered around enough to get a feel for it. The grounds are fairly small compared to the bigger ones we saw in Chicago (see my previous posts on Rosehill and Graceland from our Fall 2009 Chicago trip).

you would absolutely love Highgate Cemetry in London, so old, and sooo scary! If you ever go there, that should be top of your list!
hi jenny - yes,i've heard of highgate. clive barker (horror writer, orig. from liverpool) has mentioned it a few times in his older books. very creepy i'm sure, but i'm game to see it - in the DAYTIME! :)
