Island Foods

With our next vacation looming ahead, I felt compelled to finish up these last few posts in a burst of frenzied energy. It's only been nearly a year right? Heh heh.

Anyhow, since it was on the way to the airport, we stopped by Island Foods West Indian Cuisine.

This is a cuisine we don't see much of in San Diego so we wanted to try it (again) before we left the city. Previously, we enjoyed a few meat patties at Patty King at Kensington Market (see that post here)

They had private parking in the back so that was good. Street parking here is pretty bad.

We didn't get a roti; I remembered the one we got at Patty King was humongous and I didn't want to get stuck with a huuge piece of food that we wouldn't be able to finish.

We ended up getting a combo plate of jerk chicken with rice and vegetables...

It was past the lunch hour so it wasn't too crowded.
Our combo plate that we all shared. That pear juice was supersweet by the way. I think it had over 26 grams of sugar in it. Yikes! I remember this meal like it was yesterday. Just kidding. I don't, but I do remember the spices really had a kick to them! The carrots and potatoes made it go down a little easier. Bert enjoyed the chicken more than I did. I really thought the spices would do a "number" on me, if know what I mean.

Look at that spice...

And because I like encased meats, we got a patty as well. This was pretty filling...

I liked the ground beef and the spices used in there (not sure what they were but damn, it was good!).

One last shot before leaving...

We had such a great time last year during our Canadian vacation. What we really enjoyed the most was visiting C and her family on Manitoulin Island. What a treat it was to finally meet my "blog" friend of the past three years. We got to experience Island Life and the amazing city of Toronto. Hopefully we will come back again for another visit.
