Look it up on google. San Diego has our own in Balboa Park, but this one is much much bigger...
Speaking of trees, we were back in Carpinteria where we were surprised to see this town's claim to fame with the world's largest Torrey Pine.

Normally these trees don't even grow up this far north but hey, it was here. Torrey Pines are rare trees and are quite distinct with each pine needle bundle in groups of five. No other pine tree has this characteristic.

It was coincidental that our first stop here would be the coffee shop right behind it.

A hot day called for some iced cold brew.

Their downtown district was quite walkable and had somethig for everyone. Ice cream AND tacos?

Yes please. But next time because sadly, we did not eat here. I did like that grim faced Mexican dude on their logo.
A few hours here was nice and relaxing. As we left, we saw TC's lifeguard homie again (whom we saw a few days prior). He complimented her on her SWMRS concert shirt and said the band members were his good friends. SWMRS is a pop punk band made up of members from Emily's Army (local from Oakland; drummer is the son of Joey Armstrong from Green Day).

Late lunch at a local mom and pop diner.

And finally back to Ventura (where we passed through several years ago).

After checking into our motel, we went up to the highest point in the city to enjoy this view:

Speaking of SWMRS, TC was excited to see them on this upcoming concert poster. I was more excited about seeing English Beat on there! Everyone else...who were they, ha ha. I'm old.

Dinner was at a Thai place recommended by the guy at our motel. He was quite an affable young man and had some good recommendations on places to eat and sights to see.
The previous day, the Sherpa fire was all over the news. Thursday evening, you could see the effects of the fire with the smoke in the air coloring the sky orange/red. This photo does not adequately capture the intense curtain of haze obscuring the sun.

Thankfully the fire was north of where we were.
When got back to our motel, we could have some downtime, we watched local news coverage on the fire. Gosh, just the other day, we were in Goleta the same day the fire started.
Pretty scary.
Tomorrow we had no set plans (which was really hard for me since I normally plan everuthing to a "T" but wanted to be more flexible to make Bert and TC happy)...so it would be interesting to figure out what we would do...
