It was a few minutes away from Florence Street where we saw the cool junkyard sculptures of local artist Patrick Amiot.
Our lunch destination was a placed called "Hole in the Wall Restaurant"...
It was in a small business area not too far from where we would once again have coffee (hey, we had to maximize and take advantage of our time here; that post is forthcoming).
Even though the restaurant's name didn't sound so nice, it was definitely a few steps up from an actual "hole in the wall". We caught the tail end of the lunch rush.
Caesar salad with anchovies on the side.
Our entrees - TC's mac and cheese, Bert's Gumbo entree with thin bread, and my short rib sandwich with the soup of the day, creamy mushroom.
You can't see all of the goodness in the soup, but it was chock full of sausage, shrimp, rice and vegetables. It had a smoky flavor, a little different than what I'm used to having gumbo taste like. e asked the server later what the difference was and I believe she said it was the bacon fat that they used in the making the roux.
My short rib sandwich was quite hearty; that meat was so tender and well seasoned. The soup was also quite delicious, creamy and full of mushroom bits within.
The only miss was TC's mac and cheese which had a super thick layer of cheese on top. I called this photo, "peeling the scab", ha ha.
Unfortunately, TC felt her dish was way too oily and couldn't bring herself to eat more than a few bites. At least she had the salad and some of my soup to tide her over.
