making our way to Goleta, where UC Santa Barbara is located.

One of my good friends hooked me up with a librarian friend of his who works at the university...
where we were able to get a mini tour of the campus and the library. It was quite cool taking this shot from the 8th floor of the new library tower. Mind you, this was BEFORE the Sherpa Fire started over in the hills you see in this photo.

It's no wonder that many of students want to go to UCSB...they have their own lagoon and beach!
Here's a neat time lapse video of the library's progress. It was great that we were able to get a nice tour of their facilities including the ethnic studies section (always an interest of mine):
One exit near the university is the Goleta Pier...

This view below on the pier shows the university in the short distance. You can even see Storke Tower (highest point on campus).

Lunch was back in Santa Barbara in what is known as the old Chinatown. The building you see here is one of the last remaining structures. Lunch was here. As always, detailed posts (along with historical background/trivia) will be forthcoming.

Coffee was next door which was also right across the street from the Presidio of Santa Barbara (the last military outpost built by Spain in the New World).

In their chapel was a small plaque commemorating the resting place of the first Filipino buried in "new California" (please see #8 on this link by research librarian Eloise Gomez Borah)

More lovely tiles...

A visit to this local beach which is sheltered by cliffs (we were on those cliffs a few days before) and with its own creek.

One of the many appetizers we had for dinner at this restaurant right on the beach...

Followed by dessert at the original location of this local ice cream institution...

Hmmm, Melissa Etheridge's sperm donor is there (David Crosby) plus Single White Female Chick (Bridget Fonda), Rob Lowe (still lookin' good at 52), Barbra herself ("I'm getting verklempt"), Drew Barrymore, Jackson Browne and yes, Beyonce have all attested to the greatness of this ice cream place, ha ha.
This was our last night in Santa Barbara. We would be driving down south tomorrow. Not for home, but for Ventura and its surroundings...
