and took her out to lunch at a nearby cafe...
which used to be called the Lakeside Cafe; it is now under new ownership and called Mila's. The food is straight up American food/home cooking. No frills which is fine. Bert is not into fanciness and neither is his mom.
Bert and his mom shared a cup of chili along with a turkey sandwich. One the side was a garden salad with a chicken noodle soup for his mom. Nothing pretentious or frou frou here. Just regular food. Bert said everyone was very friendly and the portions were quite generous. The salad wasn't that great since it was probably bagged but Bert was fine with it.
The important thing is that my mother in law enjoyed her meal. She is getting on in her years and outings like this are a treat for her.

Now that Bert's mom lives here, we will be exploring more of this area of San Diego (Lakeside and Santee)....
