Four years it's been...
Bert, TC and I were in the area and wanted to pay Baja Oyster Bar a visit...TC wanted sushi while we wanted seafood of some sort.

I got the botana de camaron (shrimp in lime juice with red onions, cilantro, pepper flakes, cucumber slices and chili powder) while Bert got a smoked fish taco and shrimp taco. TC's rolls were a soft shell crab (Rosarito) and Rainbow.

Here was my Botana de pulpo - This was quite the substantial meal, meant to be an appetizer. I ate about half and saved the rest for later. I also asked for extra tostadas with this (could also be eaten with saltine crackers). This was so pretty and fresh. It was a super hot day and I didn't want to eat any hot cooked food. The octopus pieces were thick but tender and well seasoned with the lime juice. All was well until the very end of our lunch when I bit in a pepper flake which then travel upwards to the roof of my mouth where I experienced the most horrific sinus clearing and mind blowing burn. I knew water wouldn't help but I drank water anyways. Ugh. Not fun.

The Rainbow roll (not shown, the Rosarito roll which to me was overpriced)...

Bert's tacos...he enjoyed the shrimp more than the smoked fish. The latter was served super hot (temp wise) and he had to wait awhile for it to cool down. The smoked fish was quite salty.

We liked the piping hot consomme, served in cute little cups. The chips were also nice and freshly made, along with their housemade salsa which packed a big kick. Other than that lone pepper, lunch was great!
One of my favorite songs by Boston:
The drummer with the big Afro? I like to think that he was paid homage by the Tyler Hawkins (drummer of the Foo Fighters) in the "Long Road to Ruin" video (check out the 3:24 mark)...
He sports the big 'Fro, 'stache and vest with no shirt just like Sib Hashian. The Foo's were portraying a 70's era band in the video (it's a video within a video, one of my faves).
Previous visit to Baja Oyster Bar:
August 2011
Just like eastern CV/Bonita has TJ Oyster Bar, the IB/Nestor area has this nice little place...

The pulpo doesn't seem to be too bad for $16. That's a generous amount ! What's the max time you'd leave the leftover in fridge before you finished it? Sis and I got in argument b/c she said my leftover ceviche and aguachile from Karina's should be thrown out after a day (if not consumed). I think it could last 2-3 days in fridge?
It is a pretty big appetizer. The leftovers were eaten later that day for dinner. I wouldn't eat this more than 1 day in the fridge. After that, the fish/shrimp or whatever gets too soft from all the acid. It could probably last a few days but I'm afraid of getting food poisoning.
We keep saying we want to stop here and end up someplace else. It looks so good. The acid breaks down the seafood( continues "cooking" it) and the texture of all the ingredients starts to fail at about 12 hours. It won't 'spoil' per se, but it won't be even close to how you originally enjoyed it...the veggies will be mush and so will the fish and shrimp. The octopus will still have some chew to it, but it just will not be the same.
Cathy, one of these days, you will. Then you can also try a birria taco a few doors down at La Victoria taco shop and then have an ice cream cone across the street at Oasis or get some fresh tortillas at Save a Lot. The list goes on. Lots of great non-hipster places down in this part of south San Diego.
Soft seafood is not good. :(
